It has been late and I did not feel like going home. Someone knocked and I straightened myself, thinking who was staying this late in the office. I looked at the clock it was 10:15 p.m.
Come in I said
The person entered my cabin, I should have known he was none other than Aditya, my friend Adi, "you are still here it's very late. Everyone at home would be worried."
I sighed, "yes, they will be worried, I must go but I don't want to."
He came near me and sat on the same sofa I was sitting on, " you can always tell me what's wrong."
Adi everything is wrong, basically I am afraid of Geet. Every time I see her, I feel guilty. I have failed Dev bhai. I am no longer able to do justice with what he asked me to do." I said.
"Will you brief me", he asked.
"Geet is adamant that I should get married as soon as possible. She is also forcing Daadi to go and talk to the Singhania's and she keeps asking me why Sameera is not visiting us lately. You know how she likes her, the two women always were good friends and now she is wondering why not once Sameera has come to visit her I don't know what to do."
"Why don't you tell her the truth," he advised. "Daadi does not have the courage to tell her and I am not able to even look at her without anger and guilt. Her family says I should move on as if nothing has happened and get married as per her wish. They say there's nothing wrong with getting married to Sameera and Geet will also love it, but Adi how can I. I know everything I did, what I thought was right or say what I was told to do at that time. I did not go against their wishes." I could not continue
"If you know, what you did was right then go and tell her everything. She is brave, she will definitely understand," he said
"I will try" was all I could say.
I still remember that day I was on cloud nine that day.
Why would I not be? It was my brother's marriage. His would be wife, a very sweet girl named Geet. She is the daughter of my father's best friend Mr Mohinder Handa.
My brother Dev had been head over heels in love with her for the last 2 months. Yes, since last two months only, just because before that he did not know that she even existed. The Handa family returned from America only 3 months back and when my brother saw her, he was all lattoo on her. It was just his lucky chance that Daadi decided that it would be good to have him tied up with her, a charming girl of 21.
The moment Sameera, my girlfriend met Geet, they rocked. Both the girls shared the same taste and the same charm. This also made Daadi sigh in relief, as I was surely going to marry Sameera, so it would be good if both Bahus of the house liked each other.
Now you all must be wondering who I am? Most of you must guess, yes I am Maan, as in Maan Singh Khurana. I am 22 yrs, old, pursuing MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, first I did my graduation in architecture and now I am doing MBA. I am here in Delhi to attend my brother's marriage.
As soon as I complete my MBA I will marry Sameera, now that my bro is getting married, I am very happy.
"Maan, Maan" oops someone is calling me, let me see who is missing me.
"Maan!"
"Coming" oh, it's Daadi calling me, "Yes, Daadi, I am here."
"Where were you? We are getting late" she sure looked worried
"Hey chill Daadi, it's just an hour's journey" I kissed her palm and ran to the bus.
"Maan, what is taking so long?" asked my brother.
"Bro chill, I too am in a hurry to get you married, after all I went to do MBA just because I could not keep my hands off Sameera while staying in the same town." I winked at Sameera, who turned beetroot.
"You are shameless" Daadi hit the newspaper she was carrying on my head.
Everyone was on the bus and we left for Gurgaon. We sang all through the ride.
Handa gave a grand reception and the marriage went well. Geet now my Bhabhi was looking like an angel.
The couple took blessings from everyone after the ceremony.
"Won't you two touch my feet?" I asked them, everyone present glared at me
Bhabhi came forward and touched my feet, I was shocked, "I was just kidding Bhabhi, I am your Devar I should be the one touching your feet and take blessings."
She smiled at me, "I am younger then you, so it's Ok, but Sameera will have to treat me like a Jethani once you two get married"
Everyone laughed and I felt like the earth should swallow me.
"And call me Geet, Bhabhi seems weird, you always called me by my name" she added
I smiled at her sheepishly.
Did I forget to tell you that before doing my MBA I was sent to America for training and there I lived at Handa's.
And that time I used to call her Geet, I never knew then that she will land up to be my Bhabhi.
Well Sameera came forward and touched her feet, "Ok Di, but till then I will continue calling you Di"
They hugged and I was happy.
Dev and Geet were a perfect couple, within a year they were blessed with a son, and they named him Adhiraj.
By the time Adhiraj was one, I was done with my MBA and as soon as I returned my engagement date was set. And finally I was engaged to Sameera officially. Everyone was very happy.
Soon after the two families gathered and called their respective Pandits to discuss our marriage date.
And that was it, both said that there was no chance of any marriage for another 2 years, and if the marriage takes place either the bride or the groom will die. Now poor me and my Sameera, we had no say in this.
It was decided that marriage will only take place after 2 years.
I felt very bad, but I could not go against my Daadi, my bro and my Bhabhi, so I decided to talk to Sameera.
She was a very humble girl, she said, "Maan, we have known each other for long, and have waited equally long for this marriage. These two years will also pass. And what will be these two years in the 60-70 years we are going to live together"
I agreed, she was always so sensible.
So I went to the Mumbai branch meanwhile.
