Life was not easy after Geet returned to KM. I was suffocated by her presence, she behaved normally, she looked after the household as she had done when Dev bro was there. Adhiraj kept her busy. She would do everything but avoided participating in any festive activities or events. She wore pale dull sarees.

Daadi would be worried about her. She again and again asked Daadi about Sameera. Daadi did not know what to tell her.

One day while Adhiraj was doing his homework she said, "Daadi it's six months since Dev has left us. Why don't you call Sameera and we start planning a date for the wedding."

Daadi did not say anything, she was deep in her thoughts.

Adhiraj looked at Geet and said, "whose wedding, Maa?"

"Your Chachu's and Sameera's."

"But Sameera Aunty has had a wedding a few months back", said Adhiraj.

"Yes, beta but the wedding never took place." She was talking about the wedding date of Sameera with Maan.

"No Maa, Sameera Aunty got married to Gautam Uncle when you were not here. That's why you are confused."

Geet was shocked, she looked at him and then at Daadi, "Daadi what is he saying?"

Daadi just nodded and said, "it's true Geet."

"But"

"Geet after that day your Darjee came here and also Sameera's parents were here and after much of consultation and birth chart reference it was decided that Sameera and Maan will not get married." Daadi said unable to hold back.

Geet was surprised, "My Darjee, what was he doing here? He is such a conservative old man. Who is he to decide about all this?"

Daadi shrugged and said, "Geet now it's too late to change what has already been done."

"But Daadi..." Geet was confused.

"Geet, you should stop worrying about all this. Dev is no more and he cannot return. It's time for you to move on", suggested Daadi

Geet was not able to understand all this and confronted her, "Time for me to move on. What do you mean by this? Why is my moving on or not concerned with Maan's marriage?"

Daadi sighed, "Geet I don't want to discuss this."

Daadi did not entertain any other questions from her and went to her room.

When I returned Geet asked me about Sameera.

"Yes, it's true. Gautam is good to her. Sameera had gone to Gurgaon to invite you but after looking at your state she could not bring herself to tell you."

Geet was baffled, "You agreed, you let her marry someone else?"

I sighed, "Yes, and after seeing them happily married I am satisfied that I was not wrong in letting her go."

She gave me a confused look, "But Maan what about you? You love her so much."

I smiled on hearing this. I too was not aware what love was but after all this I have come to an understanding, love is not simple, "I don't know if I love her or not. But I am happy for her. Geet love is about giving the other person their freedom. Binding someone in shackles is not love."

She was not able to understand me, "Maan what are you saying? What shackles what freedom?"

I could not see her helpless state. I just smiled and said, "Geet don't stress yourself. Very soon everything will be normal. I am sorry that I did not tell you about all this."

She accused me, "Maan why did you all hide this from me?"

I sighed, "I don't know why I did not tell you? But now I am not bothered about all this. I am at peace with my decision. I have no regrets."

I came near her and said, "Geet don't you remember that you have known me even before you met Dev bro. We have been friends for much longer. Trust me I will never let you down."

I wanted to say more but checked myself. Geet was confused by what I said. She was about to say something but I did not let her talk and bid her good night and left.

After that day she started avoiding me. She even stopped talking to Daadi. She was as if trapped in a shell. She only talked to Adhiraj and only cared for him.

Slowly Daadi stared taking her meals in her room. She rarely came out. Whenever I was at KM I went to her room daily in the morning and before retiring to bed.

Adhiraj was the only factor that was binding all of us. Slowly it has been year since Dev bro left us.

Today was Dev bro's first Death anniversary. Today was the Hawan and blood donation camp. Geet's parents and other family members have come to KM. Sameera has also arrived with Gautam and their families. KC's staff was also present. I was doing the Hawan with Adhiraj. Geet was nowhere around.

"Savitri Ji, where is Geet?", asked Mohinder Uncle.

Daadi sighed, "She must be in her room."

I looked at Daadi she was looking so pale, in the last few months she has lost weight.

"Rano, go and ask Geet to come out and attend the Hawan." Mohinder Uncle instructed his wife.

Rano Aunty nodded and went to Geet's room.

After some time she was back and whispered, "she is not coming out."

Mohinder Uncle was angry and marched towards her room but Daadi stopped him, "don't disturb her, she is quite sad."

"Sad! Is she the only one who has lost him. Does she not know that even you have lost your grandson. Even Maan has lost his brother and Adhiraj his father. Why is she the only one sulking? She needs to understand that way before she knew him, he was yours. She should stop her drama." Uncle was very angry.

I did not know what to do, I could not leave the Hawan, so I just let the things go on their own.

Uncle went to her room followed by Aunty. I did not know what was going on there inside.

But I prayed that Geet may come out of her trauma and live the life freely.

I had never wanted her to feel cornered or confused. I have always cared about her. She has been my good friend, I thanked Sameera that she had reminded me of our friendship. After her marriage to bro I had forgotten about it.

She finally came out of her room and sat silently with Daadi. Sameera went near her and both hugged each other. They say there till the commencement of the Hawan.

Meanwhile the people have started donating blood. After Hawan Adhiraj was asked to distribute the prasad and slowly food was served to all who have come to attend the Hawan and the camp.

It was late afternoon as the last of the guests left. Family members and relatives sat down as our company lawyer arrived.

Daadi gave him a nod and said, "it has been a year since that fateful day, though Dev was very young but as we Khurana's always plan for the future. He has left his will with his lawyer."

I did not know about this. Though I have made my will and from time to time amend it, but when Daadi did not say about it and even the lawyer did not utter a word about it, I thought may be bro did not write a will.

The lawyer looked at all the members present and said, "I am here to read late Mr. Dev Khurana's will. You all must be wondering why I have come here after a year. Let me tell you, the will has been executed as per his wish and it has been used for all bank dealings and other business purposes. But Savitri Devi wanted me to come here today and formally inform you all about what his last wishes are. Initially she thought that Geet ji or Maan Sir would ask for it, but neither has shown interest so now I am here to read it. The will is very simple and straightforward. Savitri Ji can I start?"

Daadi nodded, "yes proceed with it."

The lawyer opened a few documents and said, "here it is, Hello everyone if you are listening to these words then it means I have left you all, way before anyone would have thought. Either some one has demanded listening to my words or it has been a year. I know very well that it has been a year as I know my family."

He looked at Geet and continued, "Geet I am sorry to leave you so soon, but let me tell you that the time I spent with you was very beautiful and I thank heavens above for giving me a chance to share my life with you. Geet all I wish for you is to be happy and free. Maybe some day you will forgive me for this short journey of ours. I thank you for bringing Adhiraj into my life. I want you to remarry and have more children as you always wanted to have at least four. I hope you will move on in your life and soon find someone to continue your journey."

Geet was in tears, she was unable to understand how she should react to this. Now she understood why Daadi asked her to move on and be free. But how will she do this? How? Why did Dev say such cruel words? How can she leave behind all this?

She was still in her thoughts, when the lawyer coughed and continued, "Adhiraj beta you are my gem, I hope that you grow to be a strong man and a sensible son, an adoring grand son and an amazing nephew."

Adhiraj smiled and said, "yes papa i will do as you have said. Don't worry, just continue your journey to the new world. Papa I know that you have just changed you body to attain a new one, Pandit ji just told me that you will take a new birth as soon as you are assured that we are moving forward and that we have accepted that your time with us was only this much. Papa may you have a good and long life once you take a new form "

Everyone was surprised by the maturity Adhiraj showed, in his innocence he accepted fate so easily.

The lawyer was in tears but continued after a few moments, "Daadi sorry to leave you so soon, but don't worry you have Maan and Adhiraj with you. I just want you to love and cherish your life and just remember my life was short but was well lived. You did a great job raising me and Maan. Daadi I love you."

Daadi wiped her tears, she has already read this but still felt deeply touched by the words.

The lawyer looked at me and continued, "And lastly Maan, my dear brother sorry for leaving you in such a tight situation. I know how much you hate long working hours and continuous meetings but I also know that in this one year you must have led KC to new heights. You have always been the one with new ideas. Maan someday you will be able to forgive me to leave you all alone. Maan you have been my most cherished person, from the day you were born you were mine, my brother. After our parents left us you have been closest to me. You were there to wipe my tears and to cry with me. You shared every emotional torment with me. Maan I am again looking at you and leaving my responsibilities with you.Take care of everyone and stay blessed. You were closest to me, you understood me like the back of your palm. Take care and live a happy life. I hope you would have been married by now, but by any chance you have not, man just go get married. Marriage is not just about getting a wife, it's about getting someone to share your ups and downs."

I have known that these words would come, yes I knew him like the back of my palm. I have been wondering why you left without a word for us. And after a year of self restraint I cried my heart out. Adhiraj hugged me and patted my back and I felt that my bro was there consoling me.

The lawyer continued, "In the end I want to apologise to everyone who feels I have wronged them.God bless you all."

Everyone was in tears.

Just read all 5 chapters. Beautiful story! A part of me wonders whether Maan used to like Geet before she married Dev. I may be wrong and i’m So looking forward to know how Maan and Geet relationship will change. Thank you for the updates.
