The Amal thing is complicated, there are close family ties and his mother loves Amal like her own daughter. At this point they are still engaged, so while he is irritated with Amal's clinginess, she just happens to be the girl he is supposed to marry for political and familial reasons.
How can they justify the love angle when Shahnawaz is utterly villainous? There's nothing morally right about someone who sends goons to threaten women on the street.
