And before you attribute the phenomenon to our scriptwriters and directors, let us tell you that even off-screen, only a handful of our actresses have ventured into the business arena, leave alone their filmi avatars which is restricted to Bips' character in 'Corporate' and will be replicated by Ash in 'Sarkar Raj'.
An aesthetic actress
The first actress in the recent decade to have made a bold statement by switching over from Bollywood to business in spite of a 'flauntable' filmography to her credit, Twinkle Khanna's decision to turn into an entrepreneur raised several eyebrows.
The actress who launched 'Mock-Ups' - a company that specializes in interior designing and planning has seen her winning the 'Elle Decor International Design Award'. In fact, Mumbai is also witness to this artistic actress's signature store 'White Window'.
A sensuous spa-setter
Bollywood's most unconventional woman ever, it then comes as little surprise that is the sensuous Sushmita Sen who became Hindi cinema's first heroine-cum-entrepreneur. Two years back, the actress launched 'Sensazione', a company that would work as the launch-vehicle for hotel chains, lounges and spas. Beyond that, the actress is also in the process of coming up with a lifestyle zone in Kolkata that will house a nightclub, a restaurant as well as cigar lounge over 12,000 sq.ft. of space. And if you thought this would limit Sen's activities in Bollywood, the stunning diva has a production house to herself under the banner of Tantra Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
A hottie hotelier
A relative newcomer on the Bollywood block, even the very young and vibrant actress who is hardly a dozen films down in Bollywood, Ayesha Takia is experimenting with her business genes too.
The favourite pin-up girl of every teenager out there, Ayesha has partnered with boyfriend Farhan Azmi to set foot into the hospitality domain. The couple has bought a 200-year old Portuguese bungalow in Goa and is working on the details to transform it into a boutique hotel.
Pretty perfect
And the latest actress to jump on the bandwagon is of course, the much-talked about business woman of the year, Preity Zinta. While most of our actresses stuck to businesses that doubled-up as a medium of self-expression, here's one star who clearly did not allow her personal preferences to seep through into her business venture. The co-owner of the Mohali cricket team of the Indian Premier Leauge (IPL), Preity has been quoted as saying, "When I do anything in life for the first time, I want to succeed." With an attitude like this, here's hoping that Ms Zinta will inspire some of our most beautiful actresses to consider entrepreneurship as some serious business.
