I must say a really nice piece on Arshi...
Let me just tell you why I don't like her...
I think to understand her, we have to understand the part that class consciousness and elitism can play in shaping a person...
In the beginning she had no problem with Jhanak being a good dancer, she even told her to participate in competition...but when she saw her dance and realised that she is on par or probably better than her and she has managed to impress Ani with her talent...then she became jealous of the very ability of Jhanak she was trying to encourage...with every word of praise for Jhanak by judges or Ani,her resentment continued to grow..cuz she took every praise for her as somehow a slight on her own importance....
This shows that insecurity has always been the biggest part of Arshi's personality that she has sugarcoated for so long by doing nice/generous things without really meaning them genuinely. That bitterness/ugliness doesn't suddenly manifest in jealousy unless it's a part of you already...
Now coming to her equation with Ani...did she actually ever love Ani?? Then why didn't she stand by him when he brought her home..Was she already doubting Aniruddh's character ?? Then I definitely doubt her love..Okay... I understand that hearing about her fiance being married to another woman is a very bad shock...no woman deserves it..but then after hearing the entire story....what did she do?? Attempted suicide?? Did she ever try to talk to Ani calmly after knowing the entire thing?
Forced marriage can be hard for anyone..Every person has the right to chose the one he/she marries...when you get married the way they did it is a attack on their self respect and a lifetime trauma..Did she try to understand Ani's situation,his turmoil even once!!!..
She was shown as someone who always sensed that something was wrong...but did she ever feel to ask Ani directly and calmly that what's happening!! All she did was manipulation, guilt-tripping and threw accusations.... humiliating him in public....
Ani himself told her so many times to break off the wedding ...usse fark nahi padta..what made it so difficult to understand that he didn't love her.. Truth is she knew...but still she chose to hold on bcz she needed to defeat Jhanak...she has told this to him as well..
Where is the 7-8 year old relationship here? When there is no care , no respect , no understanding???..
Most important we all see how much tormented Ani is by his own parents in his own house!!! Has she ever talked about Ani regarding this...his parents adores her by calling her "Laxmi "and all ...Has she ever told them to be more considerate and affectionate towards him...?? Noo..Even Jhanak being the suppressed weaker one has stood up for Aniruddh...but Arshi has never considering how much power she had in that house...It is the basic understanding of love that she doesn't have...
Instead of calmly and maturely talking to Ani , she chose to harm another victim of circumstances Jhanak whom she considers an outsider..fight with her and defeat her by flaunting him as trophy husband....If she wanted to protect Ani from distraction then why didn't she have a one on one talk with him first...Why just target a poor girl and plan to send him away....???
Is there anyway to justify the way she behaved with Jhanak?? Breaking her shakhapola...and standing there silently when evil people are pushing her to marry Tejas...and stopping Ani saying tum Kyun beech mein bol Rahe ho...
Everyone knows that what happened with her is wrong.. everyone feels bad for her..even Ani and Jhanak.. That's why they have done such a big sacrifice..Ani is literally moving like a lifeless body bcz he does understand what he did with her is not right...But what about Arshi?? When will she understand anyone else apart from her? When will anyone else's pain or turmoil matter to her???....
I am definitely not defending Ani here...He didn't confess the complete truth to her and break the wedding.It is his fault and he is paying for it...But the fact is Arshi knew everything...yet she chose to be in delusion...or hold on to him knowing very well that their life is going to be hell...just to win from Jhanak....she has given in to her worst impulses ....She has somehow chosen this for herself....She will not move to a better place unless she finds the courage to face who she truly is...see her own darker self...and decide what to do next...
