For example if someone wishes us on our birthday or congratulates us on winning any game, in return we simply can't say Thank you but we have to write a whole thank you note.

Also while voting for banners or other stuff we just can't write banner numbers but we have to write a long essay on those banners.

I like the new layout but I agree that the new minimum five-words requirement is annoying. Earlier, we used to post funny gifs and pictures in response to some posts, which were self-explanatory. Writing an explanation for why I posted a particular gif completely takes the fun out of it.

Also, it's not about getting used to it. Posting only gifs, pictures, links, or emoticons is also a way to express opinions on the forum. These things are used because sometimes they describe our views in a fun, better way. Describing why I posted particular gifs or pictures doesn't always make the conversation better, in my opinion.

This update is actually kind of a restriction, limiting our ability to express our views the way we want.

Yeah replying with gifs/emoticons/images adds fun element. It's a common practice on every other SM platform.

But there is no use of posting gifs and pictures here anymore. When we have to explain everything in words then it's better to not waste time and energy on posting gifs/memes.

Yeah it is a restriction, e.g. now we simply can't ask anyone that " How are You?/ How's your health?" We have to ask more questions too 😂

1. if someone is posting a link from twitter. That twitter link itself has some thoughts of x app user. Ppl need not write more about it. They are just sharing perspective of others.

2. Now a days VM creators are so good. We need not describe context on VM. The VM itself is self explanatory. The max ppl can write is this vm is good. Or nice vm. Some ppl may not be good with praising others. They can only do this much.

3. Sp is airing episodes at 6 am. Ppl wake up watch an epi and they are already frustrated because of the epi they watched. If they just post "its a boring epi". Now they are already frustrated and have to find words to describe what was boring for them.

4. Ppl want to wish happy birthday xyz. Now we have to fill words and ppl may be busy and they may postpon wishing and in the end they will forget wishing ppl only.

There are many more instance where ppl may not like this restriction

I really agree with your points the word limit is sort of not making sense for the reasons quoted above that those are things that you can recall top of the mind

Sometimes you just want to share just links to pictures/post coz I found them shareable

Or the banner contests and other voting contests where it doesn't make sense

Also maybe i double posted or wrote something by mistake and want to edit the post with a . and not write an entire This post was deleted double post clarification for it, this is annoying

What's the motivation for enforcing this.. if it's spam posting then we could have a rule that post less than 5 words don't count towards increase in post counts or something . At times we wish to keep our replies short

If we wish to replace those short replies with reactions I think there should be a more extensive list of reactions available

I agree with the need to give a clean modern feel to the UI but I'm not very fond of a shades of grey palette, grey tends to give a impression of frozen screen and inactive and as such . IF has a decent wine red and white palette that could be worked with

Well, much of this I've already addressed in my earlier post, so I won't repeat it.

Regarding the color shades, I'm open to suggestions. We plan to engage an external UI/UX designer to help us out. Your feedback is valuable, and we aim to create a visually appealing and user-friendly experience for everyone.

For me, its a bit clustered. The typed text in the box is overlapping the icons so in order to align or format the text such as change color or make larger etc, i have to scroll up so the text doesnt overlap it otherwise i cant click anything.

I like the new feature, but I agree with a previous user who pointed out that the page seems a bit cluttered with all the options displayed. Perhaps it would have been better as a drop-down box where we could choose the desired option for the topic type.

I also wanted to check about the possibility of reintroducing the use of different fonts. While I understand that it's not feasible to have every font available but having a selection of basic, user-friendly fonts that aligns with the IF’s system would be appreciated. I used to enjoy the use of different fonts and it made each writer/poster unique in a way.

Are there any plans to introduce more flair options in the future.

As a writer, I appreciate the implementation of the 5-word rule for comments. It will encourage some meaningful feedback beyond the usual generic phrases like 'nice update’. There is a concern from my end that this implementation may find that some users may refrain from commenting altogether, which could decrease the level of engagement rather than enhancing it.

Dear Members,

We appreciate your continued participation and enthusiasm in our forum. Recently, we've implemented a minimum word count restriction, requiring at least 4 words or 20 characters per post. We understand that this change might be a bit inconvenient, and we want to explain why it's necessary for the health and growth of our community.

Why We Made This Change

Improving Content Quality: High-quality content is crucial for making our forum engaging and informative. Posts with more meaningful content spark better discussions and provide more value to all members.

Attracting New Members: Search engines like Google prefer pages with substantial content. If our forum has lots of short, low-quality posts, it can negatively impact our search rankings. This means fewer new members discovering and joining our community.

Community Growth: A vibrant community relies on a steady influx of new members. Search engines are a major source of new visitors. By improving our content quality, we ensure that our forum remains attractive to search engines and, consequently, to potential new members.

Your Role in This Change

We need your cooperation to make this forum a better place for everyone. By taking a little extra time to write thoughtful posts, you help us create a richer, more engaging environment. This small effort on your part can make a big difference in attracting and retaining members, ensuring our community remains lively and interesting.

Addressing Concerns

Some of you have mentioned that the forum feels less active or interesting. This minimum word restriction is part of our efforts to address these concerns by promoting more meaningful interactions. We believe that over time, this will lead to more vibrant discussions and a more enjoyable experience for all.

We understand change can be challenging, but we're committed to making this forum the best it can be. Your cooperation and understanding are vital to achieving this goal.

Thank you for being a part of our community and for helping us grow and improve.

Best regards,

India Forums Team
