I was laughing, because the day before the finals, twitter was flooded with the English fans' taking over with tweets like 'This time it will come home'. The players get the the trashing at the end, last Euro Cup, when they lost against Italy, Saka and Rashford was subjected to so much racist shit, the English fans are terrible, they do not deserve the trophy if they cannot behave like humans.

Yep, their fans are awful. Saka is one of the people I like on that team and its horrible the sh*t they say about him. So hope it never goes home smiley43

It doesn’t make sense, you are right smiley37

But if you start watching Barca matches from 2007 onwards, uff what glorious days we had. The current situation is not very good, but they’re rebuilding and young boys took over.

Let’s see, bench strength even both France and Portugal had, even Brazilian bench was considered as the best in 2022 WC, but it has to reflect on field.
Also, the Copa America final was heavily dependent on physical fitness and mostly South American teams play rough in harsh conditions.

Coming to Spanish team’s strength, surely they’re strong but Argentina has defeated every team in the past years except Saudi Arabia 😂. So yes, anything can happen on field but we trust on the world champions!

actually Europeans are notorious for being more physical than the South Americans. They are taller and rely more on headers because of it to score goals. They also commit more fouls etc. By contrast, the South Americans play clean "beautiful" football. Just look at the number of fouls committed during the Euro Cup vs Copa. Not even close. The Europeans keep breaking up play every so often committing fouls.

aside from that, I find the GOAT assertions really pointless. Messi has played with great teams that have supported him well. Take WC 2022 for example. He was outscored and outplayed by Mbappe in the finals, and the entire GOAT thing became possible for him because his team helped him win the finals. Mbappe was clearly the better player in that final which is why he got the player of the match. Even in this Copa final, he wasn't able to get much done. Martinez scored, but we make it look like Messi shone. That said, Messi is among the all time greats and I love seeing him play. But I would not overlook contributions made at other positions- goalkeepers, sweepers, midfield.

I think you expected Messi to score 4 goals (one more than Mbappe) in finals? Isn’t it a collective trophy? smiley37
As far as I remember Messi at 27, and Messi at 35, both times were crowned the best player of the WC in 2014 and 2022, respectively. If you think Mbappe scoring one goal more than Messi is out scoring Messi in the finals, then the debate is pointless.

Also, GOAT assertions was started when Messi was continuously losing finals despite performing brilliantly and suddenly the debate is useless because he did a uno reverse on all the criticism and reinforced the argument that he indeed is the greatest player to play the sport.

Also, general euphoria created by him is unmatched, Mbappe or any other player cannot recreate it. And i repeat, to win a collective championship one has to understand their role, Messi along with the entire Argentina team worked on it and understood it from repeated failures, their glory didn’t come overnight, nobody knew Emi Martinez or Alvarez or even Enzo before the WC, they all were led by Messi into one of the best teams to win the tournament. The stakes on Argentina was always high because of Messi, and each and every member of the team accepts the fact. Someone who has won every trophy in the sport must be special and should not be compared with footballers who lose their shit if someone else in the team scores smiley2

this is great! You stopped gushing about how physical the SA teams are in comparison to the Europeans! At least I made some headway there.smiley37

again, Mess is one of the greatest players. But you're getting really cuckoo with the "led by Messi into one of the best teams..." assertion. First, the head coach decides who he's bringing on and who he is subbing. Every player is expected to play their role well. As a Forward, Messi is too far down field to even be involved much at defense... Again, this is a team sport. Argentina is a great team, and always has been. But there have been other Argentine teams that have been great too that haven't won. Because there's something called luck too- luck, skill, endurance.

And i don't know who started the cuckoo GOAT stuff when Messi was losing. That was silly too.
