I think the no PR schtick was to sell the idea that he’s not fake and it’s all him and real. Except they didn’t expect for his real self to be seen as toxic. Maybe they underestimated the power of social media and how it can amplify controversial words. Or maybe they’re so out of touch with reality that they really didn’t see anything wrong with a lot of his remarks and behavior.
