To show that Armaan isn't wrong for taking stand for his wife. It's a serious thing in many households where a husband cannot speak for his wife in front of the family because of the fear of being labelled as joru ka gulam. And also the scene serves the purpose of bonding with Vidya, which she had never initiated previously. The few seconds of silence when she draws parallel between their relationship and hers with Madhav conveyed everything there's need to told. She doesn't want something like that to repeat with Armaan and Abhira.
