The Jaiswal effect: The youngster is one of the main reasons why India were able to post good scores through the series. He's made an impact in all five games and in different ways. Ultra-positive in Hyderabad, very mature in Vizag and operated in different gears, brilliant second-innings double hundred in Rajkot to bat England out of the way, pressure-absorbing crucial hand in Ranchi and he put on a fierce face here in Dharamsala too. If not for him, India would have found the going tough and it's only fitting he is the leading run-scorer of the series.

Why Kuldeep Yadav? Barring the first Test, pitches in this series haven't been as spicy as before and this meant Rohit needed different dynamics. He had to make the switch from the idea of wanting extra batting cushion down the order with some bowling to needing a bowler who can force the issue in all conditions and contribute a bit with bat. This change was essential because a wristie can get more bite even if the pitch had minimal aid compared to a finger spinner who becomes more effective when there is enough assistance from the surface. Run-up tweaks, quicker pace, increased revs, improved variations, wiser angles etc from Kuldeep 2.0 made the choice easier for Rohit. And Kuldeep on his part repaid the faith with the bat too. A mature, pressure-absorbing, second fiddle innings alongside Dhruv Jurel was match-changing in Ranchi. When the innings looked like ending early yesterday here in Dharamsala he didn't throw it away. His defence was top-notch and chose the right balls to score to swell the lead, give himself and his mates the extra cushion for the bowling. He also inspired Bumrah to hang around with him.

India's theory of three spinners: At home, India plays three spinners since the last few years. Ashwin and Jadeja are the first two frontline choices and till a month or so ago Axar was the preferred third spinner. And on many occasions Axar was the best batter in the side as the middle and lower middle order contributed consistently with the bat than the top order. He was more a gun bankable batter who was also good with ball.
