Only the second instance of Ben Stokes losing back to back Tests as capatin. The first came against Australia at Edgabston and Lord's in
At the start of the game, India were in trouble at 33/3 but were bailed out by Jadeja and Rohit. Jadeja was promoted to 5 and he made a fine 100. His stand of 204 with the skipper rescued India and they posted 445. In reply England were in a great state after day 2 as Duckett tore them apart with a scintillating hundred. The day got even better for them when Ashwin was ruled out. But come day 3, India rose to the occasion with Bumrah and Kuldeep leading the way and then Siraj bowled terrifically to take a four-fer. A lead of 126 was always going to be significant come the final innings and even though the pitch stayed true, England crumbled
So from 1-0 up, England are now 1-2 down. They will be looking at their batting on day 3 and wonder how they let slip such a golden opportunity go. Root reverse-scooped and fell, Duckett got out to a short and wide ball and Stokes slogged and got out. That's where the game was lost. From a position where they could have dictated the game, they handed the advantage to India on a platter and rarely does an Indian side at home let go of such gifts. Jaiswal was sedate to start off but once he got in, he made it count. Despite Ashwin not making a big contribution, India have won easily and that should be such a big tick for them as they go to Ranchi.
Potm jadeja???
Jaiswal: "I'm just trying... whenever I'm set, to make it big. Because in Test cricket you never know, when you're playing well you have to make it big. [Different phases of this double century] It was pretty difficult for me because initially I wasn't getting runs. So had to play the session, and get set. That's when I felt I could score runs. After a while my back was not good. I didn't want to go out [of the field] but since it was too much, I went out. Today when I came, I wanted to make sure that I take the game forward and bat till the end. [Starting out slow] I felt there was something in the wicket and the ball was hard. For me, it is important for me to give teams a good start so it was important for me to play long. [On low days] I tell myself whenever I get set, I need to score well because you can get out anytime. My seniors have said to make it count. The way Rohit bhai and Jaddu bhai played, that motivated me a lot. Their passion determined me to play session by session. I thought inside the dugout that when I go out there I should also make it count. Test cricket is hard, but I thought that when I'm in there, I need to give my 100%."
How can they expect a DRAW
Mark: The way England batting has approached in this innings is absolutely disgusting. There was no way this match was ending in a draw, they had to hit everything to put the pressure back and now they're losing just because they didn't try. Baz would have a lot to say to the middle order.
That chap had won many cricket fan hearts with his scintillating double ton. My respect🫡 and best wishes ❤️ to him
