How Alia Bhatt's Filmfare win turned out to be a 'PR nightmare' - Page 3

I'm so glad to see people are aligned on the fact that her performance in Gangubai was a mess. Highly miscast. Baby face looked completely out of place and had no idea what she was doing besides dressing up to play grown-up. Completely lacked authority and emotional depth so I could feel absolutely nothing from her parading around.

Wasn't this the role that was originally meant for Priyanka? She could have pulled that off in her sleep. Had the gravitas and maturity as an actress to play it. Priyanka ditching Bollywood for Hollywood was one of the worst punishments she could inflict on an audience because it forced us to settle with the likes of this non-actress nepobaby. I also am 99% sure that if Priyanka had done Gangubai, even with what would have been likely a stellar performance, she would have been snubbed for Best Actress. Meanwhile this quack is allowed to win as a participation award just so everyone is required to clap for her. Well this Rocky Aur Rani debacle has proven that now, people aren't even willing to show up for her to clap. She can give herself as many awards as she wants, she can have 10 before the decade is over, but those awards will be meaningless if no one else is there to acknowledge them.

I seriously believe this has completely backfired on her and has shot all her credibility (not that she had much anyway) in the industry. The rest of the industry may not have liked her or respected her but they at least pretended to back then, but now she's lost even that pretense.

But what about global portals like Deadline and Variety who think Filmfare are India's equivalent of Oscars and put Alia on the pedestal for having won 5 of them. I think Alia is just trying to boost her global profile by grabbing these nonsensical awards. Even she knows that filmfare is a facade, she is just using these to strengthen her brand value and get some visibility in the west.
