But the point here is, he did chose mental asylum to live there with his beloved's memories, and not as a punishment to himself for harassing, stalking and forcing himself upon the innocent girl using various unethical aggressive and violent means.

The audience sympathized with his character, and sympathized even more due to this particular climax, hence no justice served for this toxic character.

The issue here is everyone or most didn't found it problematic, or atleast are not vocal against it unlike Darr baazigar kabeer singh and animal on social media. (alongwith the stalkish funny songs of 90s)

His father, lover, friends, literally everyone calls him a failure and goon at some point of the movie.

My only clear memory related to this movie isd my mom switching off the DVD player, and concluding ki "yeh roadside netagiri me kuchh nhi rakha hai, aam aadami ka toh pura Ghar barbad ho jate hai" with side eye to my mama.

Disabilty is not a karmic retribution for bad deeds, gosh. In the same way, uska baap bimar pad gaya/mar gaya is not karmic retribution for the glorified hero of Animal.
