Jan 3rd Death anniversary of music director, who changed his name 4 times so he gets popular.

Nashad died on 3 January 1981 at age 57. He composed film music for over 60 films during his career. Among his survivors were eight sons and seven daughters. Many of his sons followed him into the music industry.

Difference between Nashad and Naushad

In 1953, film director, Nakshab Jarachavi, had Shaukat Ali change his name to Nashad, which he retained for the rest of his life. The story behind the name change has been written in the book "Naushad: Zarra Jo Aaftaab Bana" (Penguin). The film director initially approached Naushad Ali for composing the music for his film. When Naushad Ali refused, the irate director Nakshab Jarchavi then had Shaukat Ali change his name to Nashad, to make it sound like Naushad. Nashad then composed for Jarchavi's 1953 film Naghma, starring Nadira and Ashok Kumar.[1][2]

The first time I saw a song credited to Nashad, I thought they had misspelled Naushad and was wondering how come I'd never heard of these Naushad soundtracks!

Though not as popular as Naushad, Nashad did compose some memorable songs for Hindi films before he migrated to Pakistan and composed for films there. He's credited as having introduced Runa Laila.

Baradari (1955) is the first movie that comes to mind when I think of Nashad. Who can forget these two songs? Lyrics are by Khumar Barabankwi (haven't heard of his writing beyond this movie either)

Tasveer banata hoon, tasveer nahi banti

Singer: Talat Mehmood

Bhula nahi dena

And this song from Darwaza (1954) where Suman Kalyanpur made her singing debut.

Lyrics: Khumar Barabankwi

Singers: Talat Mehmood & Suman Kalyanpur

Wikipedia gives the date of his death as 14 January and a 3rd Jan in the summary which I think is a misprint since it's 14 Jan everywhere else.

Yeah not many people do. He wasn’t as prolific and didn’t do as many A list movies. And then he moved to Pakistan in the 60s.

Sanjay Khan (born Shah Abbas Ali Khan Tanoli, 3 January 1941[1]) is an Indian actor, producer, and director known for his works in Hindi films and television.[2] Sanjay Khan made his debut in Chetan Anand's 1964 film Haqeeqat, followed by the Rajshri film Dosti which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for that year.

Khan starred in hit movies like Dus Lakh (1966), Ek Phool Do Mali (1969), Intaquam (1969), Dhund (1973), Mela (1971) etc. He co-starred with his elder brother Feroz Khan in the films Upaasna (1971), Mela (1971) and Nagin (1976). He later turned producer and director with Chandi Sona (1977) and Abdullah (1980). In 1990, he starred in and directed the famous historical fiction television series The Sword of Tipu Sultan.[4]

Marriage to Zeenat Aman

Sanjay Khan was briefly married to Zeenat Aman, the marriage took place on 30 December 1978 in a private ceremony with two witnesses in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The relationship lasted less than a year, being annulled on 24 November 1979.[19] The relationship was a difficult one for Zeenat Aman, having suffered domestic abuse including being beaten by Khan in the presence of various guests. It is also believed that the abuse she had to undergo resulted in permanent damage to her right eye.
