Oh i woke up 2 minutes before the end credits! no joke
My entire review here
Few issues that i had
Not enough jokes, punchlines in the first half compared to other Hirani movies.
We never get any backstory about Sukhi's character really
The narration given by the sardar character was like just there ...... could've used some quirky dialogues
Absolutely.
Older Hirani movies were so organic and connected instantly with the audience.
But the writing and execution was really weak in this one.
They also tried the 3 Idiots approach of storytelling (by having the characters aged and they go into flashbacks) but it didn't work.
Music was good, though!
due to meto movement ?
Yes. I also don't like most of his movies. Munna bhai was his best movie.

That pretty much sums up the entire thing.
Better writing would have elevated the film. Better execution would have made it a masterpiece.
The emotional scenes felt forced. The jokes were bad.
The scenes that showed actual Dunki were good.
Hirani should have started the film with Dunki scenes itself, and then gone into backstories of each character, one by one through flashbacks and shown better character motivations for each character to explain why they are doing it.
The characters should have aged only at the end of them film, and returned to India. That whole 3 Idiots/Barfi style of storytelling did not work for the film because the chemistry between characters was not organic, unlike 3 Idiots or Munnabhai series.
One of the most annoying things in the film was SRK's dialogue delivery. It felt so forced and unnatural.

Wow even I noticed that approach too but of course unlike in 3 Idiots, that part failed to make any impact whatsoever in a messed up film like Dunki!
Actually after watching Rangan’s review and some other critics review I went with low expectations, and I really didn’t find all these points there. May be the pace of the story was so fast that it didn’t let me sit and think on these points. It was really different for me, I found all of the actors great, light comedy moments, some of the comedy scenes were literally hilarious, the concept of returning home was captured well.
2 out of 4 songs stayed with me. Vatna didn’t because I dont want to remember the picturization any further, Lutt Putt Gaya didn’t, looked bad even when it was dropped as a Drop. But Banda and Nikle The was PURE love. OMG I have those 2 in repeats.
The reviews as you said are so polarized. I believe if any genuine BW family genre lover decides to skip it now because of the deliberate negative tweets, they’re gonna regret it when it comes to OTT. People would realize that it was a great movie to watch in big screen. Especially some of the sequences.
