As to why Aishwarya rejected Happy New Year.

Says a source close to the actress, “Yes, the film was offered to Aishwarya, and ideally she might have considered it, but the film also stars her hubby Abhishek Bachchan, and he isn’t paired opposite her. That was her reservation. She believes that if they come together in a film, they should be paired opposite each other, else the audience might reject the film.”

She is such a compassionate person that she rejected this lead role for her husband's career and to ensure that SRK and his production company would not suffer a rejection from audiences if Aishwarya was not paired with her husband. Even after SRK kicked her out of so many films, her first thought was still of him and to ensure his film would be a success even if it costs her involvement.

I mean she has probably contributed more to the success of other actresses than to her own.

This is not true for just Aish. Juhi herself has said she is responsible for Karishma's stardom by rejecting Raja Hindustani and Dil To Pagal Hai. And ironically enough, Karishma (and Kareena) felt irked that when she was becoming the #1 heroine, she was supplanted by Aish thanks to Taal and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The sisters could not handle an outsider taking that top slot.

WOT THE. Kaun hai ye log? Who the hell has ever wanted Aishwarya and Abhishek onscreen? Apart from Jaya Ji, there ain’t a living soul I tell ya.

Looks like she had a lot of offers at her feet to kick.
