It is not often that a telly bahu makes an appearance before the media accompanied by her screen saas. But Heer and Babbu are supposedly very fond of each other. "See, I have been frequenting their house since childhood," protests Urmila Kanetkar who plays Heer, on being told of the impossibility of saas-bahu bonding on screen. And the saas — Ragini Shah, who plays Babbu — insists that there is no hand of Heer in the fact that she has gone into coma within a month of the serial being launched on Sahara One. But can there be a serial called Mera Sasural and no in-law complications whatever for the wife? No, indeed. So there is a third character in the plot who takes on the villainous mantle. Sushma, wife of Heer's father-in-law's brother, not content with scheming against her own sister-in-law Goldie (played by Pooja Joshi), dramatically announces that Omi, Heer's army officer husband, is in reality her son. With her husband away on duty and her loving saas senseless in hospital, Heer has to fight the pretender saas on her own. "At present, I have been driven out of home and am staying in the house of the priest of the local temple," says Urmila, one of the cast members of Maayka who were sacked from the Zee TV show over a row with the channel before signing up to launch Mera Sasural. That's enough complication in both reel and real life. But ask Heer, and she jumps in defence of even her evil saasu ma."She is not a bad person. It's just that she doesn't want Heer in the house as she's a mangalik," Urmila shrugs. Star and skirmishes. How does Mera Sasural differ from the K-factory products then? "No, no. These fights are not serious. It's just a sort of tu-tu main-main affair," saas and bahu say in one voice. Check for yourself on weekdays at 7.30pm. |
