Where are they going with this. Why is the main lead evil. Why could they not just be together after Kesar made everyone love her and then just fight any new negative characters

From the first episode, the storyline has been such that Kabir (female lead Kesar's friend) is the main lead. He has been protecting Kesar's life in every way possible. He is a very positive character.

Suraj (Kesar's adoptive mother Ambika's son), the evil guy, is not the main lead to begin with. And in all probability, he is not the real son of Ambika at all.

So as of now it appears they are going towards exposing Suraj to the family, getting them to know that Kabir is the real son of Ambika and then having Kabir marry Kesar. And in future, the negative character they'll have to deal with is Queen - the chief villain of this show who has promised to make a comeback.
