So I had the unfortunate displeasure of watching this pile of crap recently, but the one thing that struck me, other than how terrible this movie was, are the sexist tropes in this movie.
So we have a jailor who is a man, who is in charge of a female prison. Sexist trope - giving a man a position of power over women.
This jailor then leads a group of women inmates into vigilante justice. Another sexist trope - men are leaders, and women can't do anything without a man's help!
When the jailor hijacks the train, he is busy flirting with the female cop who is tasked with the negotiations, asking her to sing a song for him, wanting Alia Bhatt etc... sexist trope - men not taking women in positions of authority seriously.
When Azad and Narmada are kidnapped and getting battered, even the woman is getting punched in the face guess who turns up to save them?...... another man! Sexist trope - a man coming to save the day.
It's a recurring theme throughout the movie, the take away message is that women are incompetent and useless without a man, and let's not even talk about the violence, unadulterated toxic masculinity being glorified throughout the movie, mindless and gratuitous action scenes just for the hell of it.
I'm surprised that a movie like with its sexist and toxic overtones was praised and celebrated so much, think about the unintended consequences and the negative impact this could have on the audience?
