**Long post alert**
Namaste,
Anupama the show was presented as a flag bearer of women empowerment to showcase the story of a middle aged woman coming out of the clutches of a 26 year old abusive marriage who embarks on a journey of finding oneself.
Wow, what a concept, one might wonder. Superb it was, only that it remained just that, a concept woth no resemblance to reality or realistic depiction. It took ALL of 285 episodes to permanently jeopardize any scope of her Flight to Independence and quest for exploration which famously got to be known as "Udaan".
Along the way, we come across inspiring women who could not pass off as leads but how we wish they were, for their amazing transformation and fight against challenges.
1. Kantaben Joshi:
A single mother who had 2 (teenage) young children to take care of, forced to get her 19 year old daughter only to be insulted by her in-laws and isolated from her.
Successfully raised her children doing odd jobs, settling to run a catering service along with supporting her son's small scale business.
Stood up against Shahs for their unreasonable demands and showed them the mirror. Protected her against unruly comments from relatives and unknowns alike.
Supported her (ungrateful) daughter in her most dire circumstances, guided her, encouraged her second innings at financial independence by providing her a space for her Ecedemy, shouldered Anupama's responsibilities and cared for Bhairavi (which was conveniently forgotten).
2. Rakhi Dave:
Through the course of the story, we are given to understand, Rakhi Dave lived through an unhappy marriage for the sake of her daughter.
Rakhi, a rich businessman's daughter finds love in her father's orphan, diligent secretary. They together take over the business (Dave Coaching). When Rakhi is pregnant with Kinjal, she finds out that her husband cheated on her. Although, she wants to break out from the loveless marriage, she is advised to compromise for the sake of the child. This sours their relationship and they drift apart, although posing as a couple for Kinjal's sake.
Knowing her husband's intentions, Rakhi takes over the business, builds it and expands it. She raises a strong, independent, humble and well mannered (but ungrateful) daughter who is skilled and hardworking, dedicated and independent and supportive. Rakhi Dave has a keen eye for business and a sharp intuition and gauges the true colours of Shahs especially Paritosh. Despite the insults at Shah House, she persists and her fear is such that none dares raise a voice or even a finger at Kinjal. Kinjal enjoys a safe haven amongst (sorry to say) morons because Rakhi can instill the fear of GOD in them.
She uses her power to protect her child against ALL odds. She gave her daughter's in-laws a chance at livelihoid on multiple occasions. Always stood up to protect her child and expose the infidelity of Paritosh.
ALL this while managing a home, business and unruly relatives with an iron fist.
To be continued.....
