It's a must watch, and not because it has Vicky, but because it's a beautiful script. And the stars of the movie are Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa. They make you cry like hell.
Also, special mention to casting director for casting Family Man's Vedant as younger Ved, he was great! Shrishti fits in the universe, unlike many other influencers who are cast just for their following. She should have gotten more screenspace.
Coming to the story and plotpoints, I feel Manushi was just a plot device to get Ved Into the Muslim residential area for the first time, other than that, she doesn't do much. Atleast Sanya's character in Badhai Ho tries to make Ayushman's character see sense, here that's not the case. But also, the two characters arent supposed to be about whom the stories are about, they are about the family and the changes the revelations (Ved's birth origin and Ninaa's pregnancy) will bring to the family dynamics. It was like Manushi ke contract ke 2 movies jaldi jaldi nipta lete hai thaats why YRF cast her. That focus should have been given to Bhatta, Sarvesh and the rest of the Tripathis instead. Also, you don't cast Bhuvan Arora and ignore him, especially after Farzi, what's wrong with you!
At times I was like the villians are wasting too much time on someone's religion, but then I realised that IRL, people do the same, they use religion to find faults and make the society (in the movie's case, the family) weaker for their own gains. Even when people end up spending their time hating Ved, I was like Bhai, kaaam-dhande pe lag jaao, bekaar mein time waste kyun kar rahe (especially the last scene, the crowd still doesn't make sense to me) but yeh India ki reality ban Rahi hai, religion is being used like anything and people actually believe that their faith is in danger and spend their time hating one another.
I also like that the reveal of Ved's birth. It's not a cliche, and obviously you see it coming from 86203 miles, but it's a beautiful one.
I do feel dialogues could have been better in places. After kissing Jasmeet, Ved was like Hindu ki kiss thi yaa Muslim ki and I was like Bhai, tera Aaj KLPD hoga, pakka, luckily (for Ved) nahi hua.
Someone says "Yeh "uski" behen hai" and Srishti goes full crazy, which I get, because of the tone in which it was said, but I feel they should have gone for something a bit more vile.
I was actually excited about this one because the reviewers I follow had given this movie a positive review and it didn't disappoint.
And yes, Vicky was good in this one (abhi hai toh hai, main kya karu?)
