Do actresses possess the capability to draw audiences to the theaters?

Akshay Kumar's movies are opening to less than 2 crores today but let's talk about the actresses and their box office pull.

Veere Di Wedding, released in 2018, holds the record for the highest opening among female-led films, often attributed to the mentions of orgasm, women using sex toys etc etc. However, "Thank You for Coming," another multi-female-led film, had an opening of less than 1 crore today.

What set Veere Di Wedding apart from "Thank You for Coming"? Was it the star power of Kareena and Sonam? Good promotions? The first of its kind movie? Hit title song?

Kareena is a star. Sonam is well known

Bhumi is maybe one of those things. But

If Akshay Kumar, who demands ten times the pay of the top actresses, can consistently achieve a 2 crore opening at the box office, perhaps we've been overly critical of actresses for their box office disappointments.

What do you expect as boxoffice of a movie that releases in a country where the general audience consists of men mainly?

They cannot go openly to watch such a movie (although they could learn one or two/three/four/five things) smiley2

And would women (married, with family) really dare to openly watch a movie that openly talks about sexuality which isn't a subject that - usually - is openly discussed in Indian families?

They could have chosen another movie-title...the humour (triple meaning) backfires in a society where using humour to tackle day-to-day life is a rare good.

But, but ,but, Veere Di Wedding did secure a strong opening a few years back despite its focus on the same topics like girls orgasms, vibrators, sex, girls enjoying their autonomy etc etc the film received mixed reviews and is far from being considered a memorable movie. Yet, it still turned out to be a box office success.

What my theory suggests is this: star power doesn't exist in isolation; it's relative. It depends on numerous factors that can change with each movie. Elements like the songs, promotions, genre, director, co-stars, and more all play a role. Simply having a famous name isn't enough to guarantee success.

So let's give the girls the same pay as their male counterparts.

Why not give the male counterparts the same pay as the girls? That would make lower budgets and give more hits...

Or mesure the working time and give the pay accordingly...

To the other part of your post I could only do assumptions as I haven't watched both the movies. Your reasoning could be appropriate... no idea.
