Well, there was a criticism that Slumdog was inspired by 70s BW movies like Yadon Ki Barat

“The famous Bollywood movies of the 1970s almost always included the ‘running children trying to get away from evil by jumping on a train, getting separated, and then living their life trying to find the lost one’ theme."

Yes it’s loosely based on the novel “Q&A” by Indian author

But not sure how loose

The main characters are not Jamal and Salim

but Ram Mohammad Thomas and his friend Salim who’re orphans and don’t know their religion
