( "By the way Neil, you know what I was thinking?"
It was the auspicious day of Janmashtami, and the whole city of Mathura was decorated like a newly wed bride.
After visiting the temple, Neil and Yuvika walked side by side to each other, looking around the fair.
"Hm?" Since his mouth was stuffed, Neil made a sound to tell that she had his attention.
"Today is your birthday."
"Hm."
"Your favourite colours are blue and yellow."
"Hm."
"And you like eating Malai Makkhan."
"Hm..." Neil hummed in affirmation once again, scooping an another spoonful of the desert from the leaf cup, devouring it in one bite.
Yuvika smiled at his silliness.
"So that means, are you the modern age's equivalent of Krishna?"
"Hm- cough?!!" Neil choked on his Malai Makkhan.
Coughing until he calmed down, he looked at her incredulously.
"How- How do you think of such things?!"
She looked at him in a challenge, as if daring him to deny her words.
Neil discarded the cup in a nearby dustbin and rubbed both his hands, before they started walking again.
He made a show of folding his arm and putting his index finger under his chin.
"Well, now if you broadly look at it, there are indeed a lot of similarities between me and him...."
"Right? You also tend to guide and support people, just like how Shri Krishna helped Arjun..."
Neil stopped in his tracks and looked at her with an indecipherable emotion. It was clear from the tone of her words how much she trusted him.
"Sab nahi. Sirf tum."
He whispered lowly, but from the dumbfounded look she gave him, it was clear that he was heard.
Averting her eyes and with a healthy flush on her cheeks, Yuvika cleared her throat.
"But if you were to be the equivalent of Shri Krishna, you'd be a terrible one though."
Neil, who stood frozen, quickly woke up from his daze and moved his feet.
"Huh? And why is that?"
Yuvika glared at a confused Neil, before replying,
"And why not? As soon as your part is done, you disappear to God knows where with a speed faster than 5G internet!"
Neil blinked at her in realisation and let out an inconceivable laugh. Yuvika too broke her angry facade and laughed along.
" '5G Krishna' Pfft- But that's a wrong accusation. I am not running now, am I?" Neil grinned at her, only to see that her attention was somewhere else.
Mathura is the city of Shri Krishna himself. Could it happen that you wish for something, and it doesn't get fulfilled in Krishnanagar?
Well.... she had a wish too.
"Oye chotu! Come here,"
A teenage boy ran to them, with peacock feathers in his hand.
"How much for one?" Yuvika asked while sifting through her purse.
"Twenty rupees for one, Didi. They are so pretty, aren't they?"
She handed him a purple note of hundred and ruffled his hair. "Indeed, they are quite pretty ; just like you."
"Thank you Didi!" The excited teen pressed the note to his forehead in a gesture of reverence, before walking away with a skip in his step.
"You are not escaping now because I am not letting you." Yuvika answered his previous question with a playful smirk. "And I don't think I ever will."
You are too important to me for that.
She slowly stepped nearer towards Neil and carefully tucked the feather behind his ear.
As if he was lost in her eyes, Neil didn't even notice himself leaning closer.
"Now you resemble Keshav." Yuvika smiled at him, whispering fondly.
My 5G Krishna.)
.
.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Yuvika's eyes slowly fluttered open, listening to the steady beeps of the heart monitor.
The bright light surrounding the room made her cringe a bit. Wiggling her toes, she winced as the sensation of pins and needles covered them completely.
The thick smell of antiseptics and lemon freshner made her wonder how she ended up in a hospital bed.
Right, she had gotten into an accident after her fight with-
Yuvika took a deep breath through the oxygen mask.
(Desperate cries of 'Don't leave me' and 'I love you! ' were still ringing in her ears.)
Slowly, she checked herself over.
The only major injury seemed to be in her head, along with a few minor wounds all over body which were covered by crisp white bandages.
One hand had an IV drip while the other had the fingertip tracker connected to the monitor tracing her heartbeat.
She had also just noticed that the bed was dipped under an unfamiliar weight.
When she took a glance, she saw that her mother was sleeping while holding her non - IV hand.
She looked uncomfortable even in her sleep ; eyebrows tense with tear tracks covering her wet cheeks.
On looking around the room, her eyes found Arjun and Isha on the couch. Usually, the twins would leave no chance in fighting ; but today, they were sleeping on each other so peacefully.
For a second, Yuvika smiled. It had been so long since she had seen her family.
As if sensing her movements, her mother woke up.
"Yuvika..."
As soon as she saw her daughter awake, Bhoomi couldn't help but let out a relieved sob.
"Yuvika, my child! Where were you all these months?! Do you know how worried we were? We searched for you everywhere but couldn't find you. I kept praying to Matarani for your safety but now look-"
"Ma, calm down..."
Her voice came out as hoarse and scratchy, like someone has stuffed cotton in her mouth and ears.
"...I'm fine. You'll wake up Isha and Arjun-"
"-Calm down? CALM DOWN?!!"
Arjun zoomed towards them in a flash, his hands suddenly gripping the hospital bed tight as he sneered at her in anger ; with tears brimming in his eyes.
"First you left Delhi without informing anyone and when we found you- You almost died, Yuvika di! And you want us to calm down?!"
Isha stood beside him with arms folded, expression somber.
Whelp, Yuvika sighed. It looked like her siblings had woken up long ago. (Or were they even sleeping?)
"How-how could you do this to us! Not even a year has passed since papa left us and now, now you- " Arjun's breath hitched a little, and he quickly pressed his thumb and forefinger on the bridge of his nose, trying his hardest not to cry.
"Arjun," He had always been a silent crier since childhood. So, so stubborn to let those tears out.
Yuvika still remembered how after scolding him, she used to find him upset and shivering beside the ghats of Rishikesh, completely drenched from swimming. When asked to come back home, he would absolutely refuse to.
But whenever Yuvika promised to offer her share of Bal Mithai, he would grin widely before immediately holding her hand and rushing towards home, as if waiting for her offer ; the fight long forgotten.
(She wondered if she would able to pacify him today, even without the sweet.)
"You didn't even tell us when you left Di. During these three months, there were no phone calls, no messages, nothing. Tell me Di, do you even consider us your family?"
Compared to Arjun's outburst, Isha was calm and composed. Her sister, who never missed an opportunity to be optimistic and cheerful, had spoken in such a low voice that it didn't fail to make her flinch.
"Isha!" Bhoomi, whose sobs were subsided by now, quickly rebuked her ; though it was apparent from her averted eyes that she wanted to know the reason of her disappearance, too.
"No ma." She shook her head. It was clear that they had questions, and she would try she best to answer.
It honestly hurt to see them like this. Ironically, she was the one who had promised her father to keep this family together. But who could have known.
Yuvika moved the oxygen mask away and slowly started getting up, wincing at the soreness in her body.
"Careful-" Her siblings rushed to assist her, and why wouldn't they? No matter how angry they were, Yuvika was their Di.
Once her back was to the bed, she exhaled and ouch - it felt like someone was hammering her head repeatedly.
"I know that I had made a mistake of leaving Delhi, when I was the one who had convinced you all to stay. But please trust me, it was not my intention to hurt you all."
"I was Overwhelmed. Distraught. And Exhausted."
She didn't need to explain why to her family because with the way their expressions changed, they already knew.
"I..... I wanted to spend some time for myself. Away from a place where every second felt like suffocating on thick air. I am sorry that I didn't inform but.. my decision was unprompted too."
Yuvika inhaled sharply, feeling a familiar sting in her eyes.
The house they were living in was so eerie that it felt like someone would come out of nowhere and criticise you for just breathing any second.
It didn't feel like home at all.
(Her home was in Rishikesh. In Mathura.)
"I couldn't stay at a place where I was accused of harming my own family, of ruining their image, of ruining Dada Babu's reputation-"
Yuvika stopped breathing for a second.
(Almost all men in her life seemed to be upset at her.)
"Ma, where is Dada Babu?" She suddenly turned to her mother.
(First it was her papa who left her, then Dada Babu, Karthik and now-)
Bhoomi let out an assuring smile, as if denying the thoughts of her head.
"Dada Babu is waiting outside. He is just afraid to-"
"Yuvika Bete."
The voice was low yet so, so loud ; thick with worry, grief, concern and relief.
She snapped her head towards the sound of knocking so fast that it hurt a bit.
There he was - Bhanu Pratap Mahajan in all his glory, standing just by the door.
However, despite having such a big stature, he seemed tiny in the moment ; as if he was hesitant of something.
Yuvika didn't think.
She suddenly tumbled out of the bed -earning a startled gasp from her mother and siblings- and threw herself to Dada Babu's feet.
"Yuvika/Di!"
Dada Babu.
She didn't even feel the pain of IV catheter ripping out from the back of her hand.
"I'm sorry- I am so sorry Dada Babu. I didn't- I didn't tamper the AV! Please trust me-"
"Nahi, nahi Yuvika bete. Utho!" Dada Babu immediately bent down to pick her up, but she couldn't, how could she?
Dada Babu, her eldest uncle was a man of principles. Even at such an old age, he had never failed to balance the dignity of his family and the reputation of Mahajan Group of Companies.
Blood slowly flowed out of her mangled hand, dripping over the expensive boots she had been gripping tightly - mixing with the tears flowing from her shut eyes.
Until she same along.
Until she ruined his trust, his dignity, his everything.
"Please forgive me f-for breaking your trust, Dada Babu! Are you still angry? Please, please believe me, I didn't do anything-"
She didn't even know what she was blabbering at this point.
"Nahi, Bete. Nahi-" The eldest Mahajan shook his head in despair, holding her shoulders tightly.
Will nothing ever be the same as before?
"Di, get up! You will hurt yourself - you have not even properly healed yet!" Arjun and Isha scrambled to pick her up.
And once she did, Yuvika found herself engulfed in a warm hug.
"Mujhe gyaat hai! Mujhe gyat hai ki tumne kuch nahi kiya Yuvika bete. Swayam ko aise kasht mat do!"
/I know! I know that you have not done anything wrong, Yuvika. Don't hurt yourself like this!/
It was clear from the heavy and wet tone of his voice that Dada Babu was crying too.
"Arre kshama toh mujhe maangni chahiye ! Meri hi galti thi ki tum humein chhod ke chali gayi. Apne Dada Babu ko maaf kardo, beti!! Tumne kuch bhi nahi kiya hai-"
/I should be the one seeking forgiveness - it was my fault that you left all of us. Please forgive your Dada Babu, my child!! You have not done anything-/
Distinct voices blurred in the background as everything seemed to be fuzzy once again.
Yuvika's head was throbbing badly, her hand was bleeding, there was stinging pain all over her body and the world seemed to spin on its axis.
(But she knew that all of this was not even a fraction of the feeling of agony deep within her soul, which was ripping her heart into shreds.
Because the cause and cure of all her worries, all her woes, all her pain ; was not here.
He had not come to see her.
Not even once.)
I know it's a bit too early but ; Happy Janmashtami, folks!❤️
There is no mention of Neil's birthday in the show so I decided to make my own lol. I hope it's alright😅
Should I leave it here or should I continue? 😳
