sports also inculcates discipline, teamwork, focus on healthy life style... all the good stuff.

Think what I'm trying to say.

There's something like international respect and prestige. Uski kitni keemat lagati ho aap? Chandrayan has made history and India proud. The respect it has earned for India in itself justifies the cost. Other returns will come later. Be patient.

*shrug* I feel like people are missing the point of my post.

I am not denying that space exploration has value. But a laundry list of expensive movies about space doesn't prove the value of space exploration.

----

The current argument is going like this.

Person 1: X is expensive, and I don't see the point of X. So we mustn't do X.

Person 2: Y is far more expensive than X. So if people can do Y, why not X.

Basically, it is saying that just because other expensive things exist it is ok to spend on this expensive thing. This is a completely fallacious and illogical argument that doesn't justify X. With logic like this, Elon Musk spending 44 billion on Twitter, justifies someone blowing their entire paycheck on caviar.

Instead, the argument should be more like

Person 2: X actually has value. And these are the perceived, potential, unrealized, and probable values of X. This is why we must do X.

What is its purpose? What is this potential value we may realize in the future?

To justify space exploration - you have to explain the potential future value of space exploration. You cannot justify it by citing a list of other more expensive things.

But holy Christ on a cracker, what the frack am I doing? This isn't debate mansion. 😆

The market for space launches is all set to grow in the coming years due to economical launch services, rise in need for navigation satellites, and increasing demand for communication satellites.

The activities including building of launch vehicles, satellites, providing space based services, sharing of test facilities and setting up incubation centres would anyway boost the economy too.

The number of start-ups starting operations in the space sector has been growing too.

I am too lazy to go search.)

And more importantly, there are people working day and night to make it happen. I am so proud of ISRO. Also, I want to throw hot, boiling water on the faces of those NYC Times staff who thought it was a good idea to make that cartoon all those years ago. Take that you ______.

Why such extreme reaction to a harmless joke?

That joke has been in circulation for many decades. Why nobody was booked for this same joke in all these decades? Why people are taking offense to this joke after all these years?

Something is definitely happening in this country of ours.
