I am not denying that space exploration has value. But a laundry list of expensive movies about space doesn't prove the value of space exploration.

The current argument is going like this.
Person 1: X is expensive, and I don't see the point of X. So we mustn't do X.
Person 2: Y is far more expensive than X. So if people can do Y, why not X.
Basically, it is saying that just because other expensive things exist it is ok to spend on this expensive thing. This is a completely fallacious and illogical argument that doesn't justify X. With logic like this, Elon Musk spending 44 billion on Twitter, justifies someone blowing their entire paycheck on caviar.
Instead, the argument should be more like
Person 2: X actually has value. And these are the perceived, potential, unrealized, and probable values of X. This is why we must do X.
