Moon mission is not futile in any way, it benefits country both on scientific and economic fronts.

The market for space launches is all set to grow in the coming years due to economical launch services, rise in need for navigation satellites, and increasing demand for communication satellites.

The activities including building of launch vehicles, satellites, providing space based services, sharing of test facilities and setting up incubation centres would anyway boost the economy too.

The number of start-ups starting operations in the space sector has been growing too.

Secondly this mission is about being the first in reaching the South Pole which is just an exercise in ego massaging for the govt. You are short sighted if you see it for anything else.

You are also far sighted. Good luck living on the moon in a 1000 years or in your la la la nevermore land.

??? Where did I say anything about terraforming moon? Although that too is being worked on, chances are low of artificially building an atmosphere.

Mars, on the other hand, is seriously being worked on.

I, too, have news for you. Before humanity gets to Mars, it needs to learn how to fly and land closer. Hence moon. Also, we could gain materially from there as well.

Secondly, yes. We do need to think generations ahead. If everyone were as self-centered as you're suggesting, then humanity wouldn't have reached this far.

ISRO scientists spoke the truth after the success of Chandrayaan3 ..some people have mocked them, pulled them down, taunted them, made fun of them ..and they were well aware of it..and They just chose to shut all the noise out and focus on getting it right as a team..PROUD OF ISRO! We are now a part of an extremely esteemed club of 4 countries who managed to do soft landing on Moon! My Brit colleagues were a sight to look at today..the disbelief and shock and also the acknowledgment that India has achieved something very very prestigious..and that we have some of the brightest minds out there! THIS is such vindication, crib away Prakash Raj and his chelas..today when Indians will look up at the sky..we will all be proud of what our science warriors achieved!

Live footage of the moon's south pole

(very obscure East Coast joke based on why the south pole is of interest)

Remind them a number of scientists in the U.S. are also of Indian ethnicity.

I should 😎 but then maybe I don’t burst their bubble..and let them think..we are hungry and poor and downtrodden..and then suddenly take them by surprise when something like this happens 😆.that’s probably why Rishi is the PM of UK and Vivek Ramaswamy emerges as one of the popular contenders in US 😆 such bhondu people whites are 😆

Sorry but you can’t convince me that these countless futile explorations of the moon equals flying planes. Fix the planet you live on.

Summary of why south pole of moon is important

Potential source of rocket fuel, oxygen, and hydration for astronauts. Presence of water, metals, and minerals. India's attempt to land on and explore the Moon's South Pole is to Understand lunar water origins, lunar soil composition, and potential life.

How r we going to fix the planet we live in? Humans have been exploiting it without any farsightedness since ages. We are so many and we need resources. When we r short of resources at home we get them from elsewhere where it's available.

Can't really expect and not even wish for the population on Earth to dramatically decrease ya?

South pole of moon has the potential to help humanity. Just hope humans learn from their mistakes and use resources, if any, judiciously.

And all space explorations are done with some purpose..they aren't just for ego massaging
