Whoa! Whoa! You may not like the movie or the star but that doesn't mean it didn't break new grounds.... In BW movie history (could be Indian movie) it WAS groundbreaking

Nobody could've made that movie before 2000s (and those who know know why)

The dialogues, the storyline were new to BW simply bcz it couldn't have been made before

DCH did not even have the courage to see thru the MayDecember romance. Of course it was one sided and of course she conveniently dies so he can hook up with a younger girl 😛

People didn’t forget about gadar because it was lumped with other not so great hits …they forgot abt it coz as far as filmmaking was concerned, it broke no new ground ..music , visuals, choreography, screenplay…nope…it had some emotional connect coz we were fresh out of a war (kargil) so the patriotic sentiment worked ….

Lagaan and dil chahta hai broke new ground, inspired many of the contemporary filmmakers, changed Indian cinema

Gadar made a lot of money …

I connected emotionally with Gadar and wasn't living in India at the time. I wasn't overcome by patriotic feelings.

I actually liked the story and thought the main characters had beautiful chemistry. Brought back Masterji and Lajjoji for me. 😊

Audience really doesn't care if cinema breaks new ground. They're there for entertainment. If you're going to bore me with your path breaking film, thank you, but no thank you.

Ps. As a writer, I thought the screenplay was nicely done. Engaging.

I was born after gadar still I remember it. All of its songs are iconic and so does is handpump ukhadna and that "jo bole so nihal" it basically part of are day-to-day reference. Whereas Dil chahta is just firki's dp to me and most of gen z......so much for ground breaking movie.

Lol…yeh Accha hai…shit on it being a “rich people” movie when there’s no other arguments and that automatically makes gadar oh so superior right….coz of its “grounded reality” of uprooting and throwing a hand pump and single handedly defeating an army …

Dch had music, picturization, humor and styling that people reference even today…several films like kal ho na ho, wake up Sid, kapoor and sons since then, were inspired by dil chahta hai’s aesthetic and the fact that it was subtle abt showing emotions, not melodramatic

Lagaan also also had a massive cultural impact with it being nominated to the Oscar’s , it’s montages being spoofed in other movies , commercial directors like rakesh roshan, rajamouli claiming it hugely inspired them, it was one of the very few films at that time based on sports …

I can’t think of a single movie that was inspired by Gadar, or a single filmmaker who claimed they joined films because they were so inspired by it ….the only movies Gadar inspired was trash like sallus veer (made by the same director) ..it is also telling that neither the director , nor the actors managed to create a stir outside this film in the last 20 years …

If u make a lot of money but create no culturally significant shift in the film industry, u will just be a hit film ….not something that will stay in posterity

that is why hum aapke hai kaun is remembered, not jai santoshi ma….

ddlj is remembered not raja hindustani,

Jane bhi do Yaaro is remembered not himmatwala,

I love Dil Chata Hai but the film makers it inspired are people like the guys from the now bankrupt studio Phantom films. Who did more harm than good in Bollywood IMHO

Bees saal mein Ek film kya chal gayi , Anil sharma suddenly becomes a legendary director now that we were all waiting for 😂 and it’s time to shit on people who have been far more consistent with their success, quality of work and impact in the last 20 years …

And Anil sharma, ameesha and Sunny’s work in the last 20 years set the cash registers ringing and saved the industry didn’t they? 😂 I mean, phantom atleast gave films some people liked and introduced several filmmakers …who are still working btw …
