Not for me. But the LGBTQIA communities who have a section that thinks cis het ones appropriate their culture, space, aesthetic to increase own fanbase.

I am aware of stigma and bias against ones who defy cis het gender norms. And even violent attacks against them.

Stop acting like I am not aware of the bias against community or want people to show if they donated to NGOs working for sexual minorities.

But there is indeed a section of cis het types cashing on this culture to increase fanbase.

Manoj Bajpai in Aligarh was NOT a caricature or stereotype at all. Amused how you asked me if I want a caricature or stereotype?

Ranveer has never played positive characters belonging to sexual minorities.

He played a bisexual villain in Padmavat though.

When has he played a genuine or positive queer or gay character?

He sure appropriates their aesthetic to increase fanbase.

It has worked as he has fans among queer community and his nude photoshoot went viral https://theprint.in/opinion/pov/grindrs-faceless-queer-profiles-are-sporting-a-new-dp-nude-ranveer-singh/1057420/

And nowadays he makes it to research papers on queer theory https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14746689.2022.2115702?journalCode=rsap20#.YxLDm4alej8.twitter

His PR strategy has worked though. He gets accolades for breaking norms of heteronormativity. Even if he is not genuinely interested in doing so nor an ally of the community per se.

Which fanbase? If you had to quantify, roughly how many people would we be talking? And as per your post, this said fanbase is up in arms against his representation. So what fanbase are they trying to increase, prey tell😆So what are we saying? LGBT should only be positive, happy go lucky people? They can’t be shown as a villain the same way straight people are? You’ve lost me dude

If an actor does this im sure people will criticize it. But I also feel an actor would be criticized if its found out they are trying to avoid it.

Damned if I do and dont

This post is making a mountain out of a molehill.

People dress the way they dress. Ulta queer is fluid, an umbrella term which welcomes all. So no, be isn't taking up anyone's space.

It's Rocky and Alauddin who were written as flamboyant characters in the story.

And he loves being that in real life. That is it.

This is a whole different topic tbh but who was outraged? Is the bindi also technically not a Indian/Bengali accessory? Most of us (bar the loud woke minority) have zero issues with an Urban Outfitters or H&M selling the bindi as a festival item to be worn at Coachella or Glasto. You’ll never see me defending something like Blackface but there’s such a fine line between cultural appropriation and appreciation, intent probably has a lot to do with it. And I’m perfectly OK with letting people know gently that something isn’t appropriate instead of demanding their head in outrage, but that’s just me.

The thing is , when so called, well-informed and cultured people who have lived in different countries and studied in Columbia (Sara Ali Khan and shraddha both have lived and studied abroad) do such things, it's beyond dumb.

Now we can't expect Coachella festival girls or anyone to understand all the cultural heritage or bindi Cos it's a part of make-up or look whatever we wanna call it for them. The slightly woke ones may understand.

But turban is something much more sacred and not fashion. Maybe understand the history behind it. Wear it with respect even if you do performance. Same for cornrows or those hairstyles that black people do.

And khilji, or rocky or even Ranveer isn't hurting any religious sentiments or anything by using something sacred as a fashion accessory.

And I'm the last violent person who would physical harm or even abuse someone if they wore something of my community as a fashion accessory.

Bingo. And it's not something sudden I think. Even in BBB his character was flamboyant na. I think that worked in the actor's favour. People mistook him for a proper Delhi ka ladka even though he's been a true mumbaikar.

This feels a little hypocritical no? Shraddha toh dropped out freshman year, what would she know of American culture? Same way the white girls know nothing about a bindi. And I say this as someone that has no issues with them wearing a bindi. I don’t particularly like the idea of them turning our celebration of holi and monetising it as a “colour run”, but hey. I totally understand the importance of a turban and covering head (till date I get bibijis giving me a death stare when my dupatta falls off😆) but then I see these travel bloggers go visit Punjab and the happiness and joy it brings the locals to tie a pagh on these guys and how happy the people in the comments are that people are taking an effort to appreciate their culture. Hence why I say the intent is important. Even with the cornrows, it used to be so common to go to the Carribean as a kid and there would be locals who would tie cornrows on foreigners for a living, so I dunno, I just don’t believe anything should be so black and white. (No pun intended)
