Which one are YOU excited for?
No surprise at all.
Apart from Nolan fan-following in India, Indian audience is male centric who watches mostly male centric movies. On top of that, men would consider it an insult to even watch a Barbie movie unless they're with their girlfriend and she wants to watch it. Masculinity is that much toxic in India.
Barbie's main audience is female, and in India women don't often go for movies without men. Having said that, VDW was one movie whose target audience was mostly women. Family audience and majority of men stayed away from this film and it still made 80 Crores at the box office.
Barbie is a popular brand among girls in India and its even family friendly. If it also gets the attention of little girls, then it could attract the family audience as well. Who knows, it might surprise at the box office like The Jungle Book and The Lion King, which rode on kids and the family audience to become Blockbusters in India. But considering the feminist themes in the film, audience may not consider it kid friendly or family friendly.
I think girls in the subcontinent grow up differently from the ones in the west. I don’t think we are fascinated by Barbie like that.
Indian audience is intelligent when it comes to Hollywood movies. The same audiences sell all their brain cells when a Pathaan releases 🤡
I don't think Barbie is that popular in India. I have read few articles how Mattel was never that successful with Barbie in India as they were in other countries. Even they tried with Indian clothes and all.
Where as Nolan has hold as a director. He gave one of the best DC movies. I remember the craze among my colleagues when Dunkirk came. I think he chooses his works carefully and make movies to perfection. Myself not a big fan of Nolan, but excited for the subject (that long intimate scene a big negative for me though)
Barbie movie looks childish. Loved Greta grewig's little woman, but this isn't my cup of tea . I love Ryan Gosling, but his Ken is just caricature

Masculinity isn't toxic....some men are. Just as some women are. It's because of new age feminism BS like this that makes Andrew Tate the most popular influencer in the world.
I don't want to watch Barbie because I have no interest in Candy floss junk. Has nothing to do with toxic Masculinity.

Not having interest in the film is not the problem. Neither is masculinity. Men even showing interest in watching this movie would get them ridicule in their friend circles in most places in India. That is toxic masculinity.

I feel that these two statements may contradict each other. 😆
Could be because Cillian recently said he read the Bhagvat Geeta in reparation for his role. That’s been going viral. I wouldn’t be surprised if Peaky Blinders finally takes off in that part of the world either.
