As someone said in a thread on debate forums, Hinduism is an actively practised faith and its gods are not reduced to mythology or fairytales unlike Greek, Roman and Egyptian mythology. And India is still a deeply conservative nation when it comes to faith.

So it is best to not take liberties with gods and their depiction in India lest one gets a backlash.

I remember Devon ke Dev Mahadev got backlash for showing suhaagraat scene between Parvati and Shiva or showing return of Sati. They were taking too many creative liberties due to which show later lost steam and shut down and even acting of Mohit Raina could not save it further.

The best thing is to maintain respect instead of giving in to TRP or BO games or hoping to humanise gods or make them look cooler.

Hope next few films and shows keep that in mind and learn from failure of Ekta's Mahabharat and Adipurush.

Stop dreaming of making epics cool hoping to copy LOTR, HP, GOT, Benhur, Gladiator, Hercules, Troy, Planet of Apes, Avengers etc and stop hoping imagining Ramayan or Mahabharat like DC or Marvel characters will entice youth.

M so glad that it’s getting so much backlash.Theirs a limit to cinematic liberty too.Liberty ke naam pe kuch bhi nai kar sakte writers.There are people who have devoted their whole lives to religion and these gods and that defines them as a person..it absolutely wrong how these writers can’t even respect that.I can be very liberal but I can still respect others sentiments by not teasing or testing their faith.

It gets publicity and creates history. That is why writers and painters do it.

Now we do not know names of other Indian painters as much as we know about MF Hussain and Raja Ravi Verma because these guys painted controversial paintings of women mentioned in mythology and folklore.

So in long run these guys get to be part of history and become part of case studies or play victim in name of FoE or creative liberty.
