Should you equate fictional TV shows with real life

In my opinion, you should not equate fictional TV shows with real life. Fictional TV shows are works of fiction, and they are not meant to be realistic portrayals of real life. They often feature unrealistic plot lines, characters, and situations. For example, many TV shows feature characters who are incredibly good-looking, wealthy, and successful. These characters may have jobs that are unattainable for most people, and they may solve problems in ways that are unrealistic.

While fictional TV shows can be entertaining, it is important to remember that they are not real. If we start to equate fictional TV shows with real life, we may start to develop unrealistic expectations about our own life. We may also start to feel inadequate or unhappy because our life does not match up to the unrealistic portrayals of life on TV.

It is important to remember that TV shows are meant to entertain us, not to teach us about real life. If you can enjoy TV shows without equating them with reality, you will be able to enjoy them more and avoid any negative consequences.

exactly. TV shows are not life lessons and they make it quite clear in the beginning. Even actors keep saying please keep reel and real separate. 👍🏼

It goes without saying that fiction should never influence our life choices or values.

But generally young people are more susceptible to being influenced by what they see in TV shows & movies. I can cite the example of one of my cousins’ teenage daughter who has developed eating disorder after watching stick-thin k-pop stars. Somewhere the root cause is actually her low self-esteem which is making her compare herself to those singers & find herself unworthy. But many people have self-esteem issues..especially when they are young…very few are truly confident & self-assured. So these kind of unrealistic portrayals set an unhealthy trend among vulnerable, impressionable youngsters. I don’t know how it is now, but a few years back, Russia had banned Barbie because it was leading to body image issues among girls. I also heard from a few online friends that after watching IPKKND, their teenage selves got into relationship with toxic boys because that seemed passionate & romantic. Thankfully they realised their mistake & came out of it.

I believe young people…particularly teenagers are the most vulnerable group as far as influence of TV is concerned.

Unfortunately, that is true. Toxic TV shows can have a negative impact on young people, especially if they are not exposed to other viewpoints or role models.

Nice topic...we all can relate to it

.

Initially they show a pair n TV and audience gets hooked to them and then feel bad when they r separated . Now a days the separation is endless and thats sad. There s nothing to look forward to.

The shows telecasted earlier had the leads separated only for a short period and then together used to solve issues in the house and society.

Now a days the separation is endless.

So it makes a certain section of the audience feel bad.

I'll say we shouldn't equate fiction and reality but fiction somehow does affect us. One who is prone to get affected in a bad way should avoid disturbing content.

I personally don't take any inspiration from TV shows but I do get inspired or affected when I read something even if it's fiction. So I choose for myself what makes me inspired in a better way not what gives me anxiety.

I can never equate fictional tv shows with real life. Currently watching TMD regularly and if I set expectations accordingly then I will go around calling rapists good people at heart.

But serious answer, no, not with fictional shows, not even with with real people around you. Don't set real life expectations based on fiction or other people's lives. It is alright to learn certain character traits (based on moral leanings) and get fashion/aesthetics inspo. But fiction is fiction for a reason.
