WHAT IS TERE BIN ABOUT???
The genre is fantasy romance, but what is Tere Bin (TB) about. This isn't a story about advocating for if love marriage or if arranged marriage is correct or taking a genuine stand on any social issues. This is a love story that invokes feelings of Gone with the Wind from the poster shoot to 90s classic DDLJ to being inspired from all the romantic troupes seen on TV hundred times over. It is a dish we have eaten before, but what made TB special was the presentation made unique by our Meerab and Murtasim, played stupendously by Yumna and Wahaj.
Meerab and Murtasim are fated to become one but come together under the proposition of forced marriage to create tension in the story. The premise was never a crime it was destiny’s call. Discussing the corruption of forced marriages, debating over women’s rights, or raging out about how dare they use fake marital rape in the plot all are as pointless as trying to judge if Haya is a psycho or not.
TB is ultimately about Murtasim's POV and how he gets to his happily ever after. He is on a journey through his trials and tribulations to win his one true love. The woman he loves as he fondly calls her ‘Meri Meerab’, she is his test, and she will put him through his trials through her mistakes, but in each of her mistakes is a lesson for him that will help him adapt to her and change for the better. Meerab is all pride but since she lost her identity, she has become a confused individual with trust issues trapping her in the fears of the past. Meerab is not able to believe in Murtasim’s love for her because of the betrayal she faced in his hands. She can’t comprehend the depth of his love and even if she did see his love, she doesn’t recognize the selfless nature of it. Her judgement is compromised partly because of her trauma and partly because she is naive. Murtasim not only has to win his trials of love, but with his devotion he must restore Meerab’s faith, her identity and help her heal.
There is no Murtasim without Meerab. What is a kingdom without a King, and what is a king without his Queen. The King must save his Queen, she is his realm as the Queen strives to earn her title. Long may they reign.
