There is no denying in the fact CDM was a crucial movement...but is also true it was just one of the strategies employed and it led to exposure of Britisher's unjust practises in front of people of India.I think it's suspension must have been a tactical decision..as it was leading to bloodshed and violent measures from Britishers and therefore it was essential to reassess...that could be one of the reason but solely attributing the suspension of CDM as a cause for creation of Muslim league is a stretch ..we cant oversimplify things like that...🤔
In my understanding..Gandhiji's approach was not familiar to Britishers coz they could handle violence protests but NOT non violent ones..hence they knew what to do with Savarkar unlike Gandhi..they put him in jail right away...infact in that time period it wasnt easy to understand non violence resistance coz everything was always dealt with violence and war as I had mentioned in my previous post. Gandhi always tried to avoid violence...sometimes by negotiating if it meant it will strengthen India's chances to get independence in return... Gandhiji unlike Savarkar was able to connect with masses coz of his approach..which savarkar failed to grasp...due credit for Savarkar's fight for freedom but his methodology was too easy for brits to handle ..and end of the day he was an extremist..
Coming to Jinnah..how can one attribute just suspension of CDM for his change in persona??...doesnt make sense to me..he went to England for higher studies..gained new perspectives and came back with that...it would have happened even if CDM wasnt suspended...he would have anyway gone to England...people evolve...just like how Gandhiji came back as a different person with new set of idealogies..Jinnal also evolved unfortunately not the way we wanted..
Complete boycott during world war times wouldnt have helped much coz our leaders had to think about global standings too...independence came with such multiple strategies, negotiations and diplomatic considerations...and yes am not saying Gandhiji is perfect even he has flaws who doesnt..? but end of the day we should see whether their contributions for the larger cause of freedom was significant enough or not ...
