His sister eloped and was on the verge of getting assaulted....Mee was also worried for Mariyam but as a brother the trauma/stress MK went through? Was that nothing? He lost to MZ not because of him but because of his family...his sister and wife.

Whatever happened with Mee wasn't because of MK. He knew how it feels to not fulfill one's dream, which is why he wanted to support her..going against the so-called traditions. One can argue that right to education comes under basic right...but let's not ignore the society he lives in.
