MUMBAI, India — Indian tax agents conducted what they called "surveys" of BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai for a second consecutive day Wednesday, just weeks after the British broadcaster aired a documentary critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

More than a dozen income tax officials first entered BBC newsrooms early Tuesday, seizing accounts, financial documents, and phones of BBC employees. They told those who had not yet come into the office to stay home. More than a 100 employees were in the offices at the time.

Condemnation has poured in from press freedom advocates inside India and around the world. The Press Club of India the searches a "clear cut case of vendetta." Amnesty International called them an "affront to free speech."

Reaction was more muted though from the U.S. State Department, where spokesperson Ned Price referred journalists to Indian authorities. He said he was "not in a position to offer a judgement" but added that Washington supports "the importance of free press around the world."

The searches came weeks after the BBC aired a two-part documentary series critical of India's prime minister, Narendra Modi. India: The Modi Question examined Modi's role in anti-Muslim raids that killed hundreds in his home state of Gujarat in 2002.

Modi's government banned it from being shown inside India and forced social media companies like Twitter and YouTube to take down clips using emergency laws.

Now hatred will increase in society, which has been peaceful till now. 😒

I just shudder at the thought that if just a movie could have such an impact on educated adult mature people, then how much brainwashing it could have done on minors. Good decision by censor board to give it an adult rating

Now i just hope that parents don't brainwash their children. Please let the Ganga Jamuni tehzeeb & Bhaichara prevail 😒🙏

Just because this movie is talking about an uncomfortable truth which makes people uncomfortable it is a propaganda movie.Isn't what the movie shown has really happened in real life so how is this a propaganda movie this movie is just bringing the truth.But no this movie is fake since majorities are safe in this country then why majorities are dying in this country.The majority party of this country has lots of time in their hands that's why they are bringing lots of propaganda movie waiting for their next movie.A movie stating a bitter truth about majority is fake & propaganda but the same movie about minority is the real truth.The collection are also fake no if you see the buzz regarding this movie is good.People are talking about this movie just like people were talking about TKF.Waise why did majority party is faking the collections of this movie why not their other propaganda movie.

Who is treating us badly or like step children in India?

Reservation is there only in India for ST, SC, OBC, etc but I don’t agree that they are Hindus.

Many Hindus are forward community and we fall in General category.. we get seats in College based on merit only..

Nothing like this exists abroad where Asians can get through because of their caste.
