Even her Judaai, Hum tumpe marte hain, Kunwara are famous. Her songs were big hits.

Her fashion sense was talk of the town.

She topped all sexiest and hottest lists.

She proved her acting mettle with Pinjar, Bhoot and won awards for both.

Urmila was ANYDAY more popular than Sonali and a better actor and did more author backed films and roles.

Her posters, fashion sense were a rage. Posters were everywhere. And I bet many boys attained puberty seeing her in Haaye rama in Rangeela.

Her old songs get better and more views on YouTube too. No comparison to this overrated Sonali who has gained following only now probably due to sympathy for cancer or reality shows she did like Kya Masti kya dhoom, India's Got talent etc.

I hard remember Urmila during Pinjar era. Not sure if she was popular with older generation at the time. I most certainly remember no one in school days ever discussed or talked about Urmila.

Didn’t the movie flop? Though I personally liked the movie.

I think Sonali's absolutely gorgeous but she didn't have the acting chops to make it big. I don't remember any performance of hers which truly stuck with me and neither did she have great chemistry with any of her costars. I doubt she was even ambitious at that time because I don't think she did many films or was publicized much.

The only reason I came to know of her in the 90s was because of the song Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya LOL

She was much more remarkable down South, especially in telugu movies. She had starred in all big blockbusters with big heroes. Her characters were also very well written, no flower pot roles.

Ahh I had no idea. I was purely talking about her presence in BW.

It's not like well written roles didn't exist back then.. i just think she didn't choose the right films and also even in the flowerpot roles, she didn't particularly shine. That's just my POV. There are actresses who did flowerpot roles but were able to make an impact in BW.

Urmila won all critics choice awards that year for best actress for Pinjar.

Bhoot did well but it wasn’t cuz of Urmila craze, and Pinjar was a BO disaster.

cutting things short and simple

comparing Sonali with Tabu and Urmila is just like comparing Esha Gupta with Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, in popularity and stardom.

Who called them hits? They were critically acclaimed and won awards for Urmila.

While Sonali was finished by then and also never a serious actor at all. Just a glam doll.

She was not even popular in ads. Lisa Ray, Ash, Sheetal Malhar, Sush, Bipasha were more popular in ads in 90s.

Sonali's so called stardom and looks are overrated only now and only on this forum.

One of the most popular indian ads 'Nirma Soap' features sonali

Also karishma despite being the main character in all HSSH songs, it's Sonali's character who is remembered the most.

Nobody is saying she was a good actor but she was always popular for her beauty.
