I was happy to see the long list if I missed something and can plan to watch this weekend, but nah.... I am a big fan of classic Hindi cinema, have seen all of these from yours list :)

oh yes I missed mentioning akhri khat in my original post... what a beautiful movie, the ending is so heart wrenching when that poor little kid hugs the statue thinking it's his mother :(

I just saw K Asif's Love and God and it wasn't a bad film.. if only there weren't so many production issues with the death of Guru Dutt, and K. Asif, it would have been a masterpiece! So so much potential.. too bad they didn't manage to finish the film😭

Guru Dutt would have nailed it! At least I got to see him from a distance in the long shots of the film.

Also got around to seeing Chaudhvi Ka Chand finally and I didn't like it. The first Guru Dutt film I didn't like. If only they tied it up at the ending with some reflection on Guru Dutt's character's part over what he did or Waheeda Rahman's character finding out.. but it was just brushed aside with him covering her veil after the friend's suicide like it was no big deal. URGH WHY. Like what was the point of the movie?! I didn't get it. Was it about friendship? Was it about two friends' love for the same woman? Was it about the way women were treated like a property or a thing that one could possess and just throw aside according to their whims? It wasn't a bad film really but the ending really frustrated me. I've loved that song 'Chaudhvi Ka Chaand Ho' for so damn long and the way it was shot was so so beautiful but then the context of it all now seems wrong.

Sorry just needed to vent HAHA!

What is this movie Love and God? I have never heard of it.

I actually read a novel with the same name, which was a translation of a Pakistani novel

It's K Asif's last film which was left uncompleted. He is the one who made Mughal-e-Azam and Hulchul.

They released whatever that was filmed 20 years later in the 80s.

It's pretty much like Laila and Majnu's love story. It has no connection to the Urdu novel Khuda Aur Mohabbat.

I watched it out of love for Sanjeev Kumar, Guru Dutt and K Asif's work.. had a lot of potential to be damn good if only they could film it completely.

Some other movies which I loved -

Tere Ghar Ke Saamne - such an adorable and wholesome romcom. Dev Anand / Nutan's nokjhok, and chemistry was so fun! Especially the song 'dil ka bhanwar'.. I had such a big smile on my face watching her get flustered, and yet flirt with him❤️❤️

Why don't they make films like this anymore?!😭

Agantuk - One of the only few films of Satyajit Ray's that I haven't seen and finally got around to seeing. I would love to write an entire essay on it, but this was a fine fine movie. In fact, his finest. The dialogue, the script - so intelligent, powerful and thought-provoking. And Utpal Dutt - man his screen presence was enough. One of the finest and the most underrated actors ever! THIS WHOLE FILM WAS SHEER GENIUS!

Parineeta - So much better than the Saif / Vidya version which I really liked. So much more understated and real.

Dil Apna Preet Parai - Loved the romance between Meena Kumari's character and Raj Kumar.. those glances, the understated chemistry. One of the more romantic films I've seen from the older lot.

I liked -

Baiju Bawra- damn that score!!! We need more films with classical music at its fore. Meena Kumari and Bharat Bhushan were really good! There were bits towards the end that had a melodramatic direction but it was a very interesting story!

Saraswatichandra- how is it that all these older films are so much more progressive than the films nowadays. Nutan's character had such strength and her reverence for Saras despite the restrictions and all that she went through was beautifully portrayed. Also that actor Manish. He did well in bringing out the softness, and calm. Their pairing was lovely. I didn't understand the ending and why she made that decision for him, and that kept me from 'loving' the film.
