As of now, I think the makers have given many layers to kathaa, probably rather, for my convenience, I'm attaching layers to her personality.
So IMO kathaa is having a kind of refusal mechanism, it's a NO without giving any thought, but when the other person is persistent, the need to think about them increases as a result she might think of this seriously then I hope we get to see her POV.
Kathaa was proposed in the evening, and she conveyed the decision by night, meaning she hardly had time to process, think, or ponder on this. Hence, I call it a superficial denial.
I am unsure if they are going to let the ONS discussion feature in kathaa's real decision making process owing to how stigmatised𤏠such things are in ITV contextđ¤.
I understand the point you are trying to make, but none of this is coming through in the episodes unfortunately.
We only see blank faced reactions from Katha to anything Viaan says to her or she basically just lies straight up to deflect the topic. Makers are not really able to show her internal conflict well as far as I can tell. All we get are random scenes of her trying to stuff her head between pillows in frustrationđ. It was obvious her rejection of him was superficial and just filled with excuses. She never directly says to him I don't have any feelings for you to end the matter....she gives the impression like she is CLEARLY saying no to him but then leaves these glaring loopholes and then acts all confused ki why is Viaan still not able to move onđ
Ok she doesn't have a comfort level with anyone to discuss the ONS....she doesn't even have comfort with her own self to self-reflect? đ. The level to which the writers have made Katha a static/closed off character is frankly extreme IMO now.....she comes across as robotic and clueless on most topics but is quick to dish out gyaanđ
If the issue is about her in-laws and the whole gold-digger angle, then they should highlight that more. Instead they are trying to show that even Teji doesn't consider her a gold-digger and is only bothered about Katha being a single mom and having a past, so not right for her sonđ
I think the whole premise of the story is how intensely the protagonist feels for his love interest, he's not a man who would be moved by a puddle of water, he needs a wave to surf upon athe tide of emotions to ride over his grief and she's no small puddle with all her baggage and it can't be any other way.
She needs to persistently refuse and he has to consistently approach, sharam naam ki cheez aajaye tho their story is gone for a toss, because their love is bound to be stigmatised, they have to face humiliations, rejections and hence he needs to be unashamedly in love with her to get her into accepting him, giving their relationship a chance.
This...
The essence of story is as you've described. The OG worked because the ML was persistent and patient, and didn't lose hope of winning her over. Most importantly, his conviction that she was THE ONE for him and that they were meant to be together is what kept him steadfast on this difficult path. Viaan is in the daydreaming phase but reality is going to hit him in multiple waves, not just because of the family members but also because he will understand that the fruit of his patience will be a long-awaited one. This journey is what made the OG so amazing to watch.

Beautifully said
I am not a supporter of adaptations, but I found KA is being shot way better than OG. The ML in the OG looks like my 60 year old chacha𤣠the pair in here are very relatable.
Usually making up scenes in ITV are OTT sleazy but IMO episode 16 was very well shot, the lust, passion, tension, guilt, compulsion, feeling trapped due to circumstances everything is canned and conveyed very well, except the shirtless hero staring into the window scene.
I think the serial would have done better had it been SP because of its GCE reach.
I'm NGL, initially I felt a seasoned actor as ML would have increased the wage bill but would have been a crowd puller. Now I think Adnan is doing a good job in the calm and composed look wala episodes.

I finally watched all five episodes today...I liked some moments here and there, but don't feel inspired to write about or discuss anything. And I think its exactly because of what you stated here. Earlier even when they merely glanced at each other, say during a presentation, or all the way across the room, sparks used to fly. You could feel there was something palpable between these two people. Now when Viaan seems to be laying his soul bare in virtually every episode, there is a whole lot of heartfelt verbal expression of his deeper feelings, the magic has gone missing as far as I am concerned. It feels more like he is in a bubble of his own euphoria, constantly hovering around her, over explaining his feelings, when she is not really interested and is trying to be as polite as possible by repeatedly refusing him. Katha seems extremely stressed and has a single note expression on her face for most of the time...a look of being overwhelmed. Like the topic maker and many in this post have pointed out her refusal was also very mechanical. If the makers were trying to bring across her inner conflict here, then they failed to do so. Except fleetingly in the scene in which they were making the Kada prasad together in the kitchen and her face softened up for a few seconds, you cannot feel that she has any deeper connect with Viaan. I am not ok with Viaan on one hand saying repeatedly that he does not expect anything in return from his jugnu but just basking in its beauty and on the other hand lading in front of the jugnu again and again laying bare his soul. Does he not see how uncomfortable he is making her by popping in and out of her room all the time? She stiffens and looks petrified every time he approaches her door...now what is he gonna say nextđ¤Ł! From the precap it seems they will use the same old trope of ML getting hurt and FL giving a peep into her feelings for him because he was in harm's way.
Actually I think its also because we have no idea where Katha is really at. No monologues, no reflections, no chuddy-buddy like Ehsaan with whom she can bounce of her love-travails, no 8 yr old gym pal who with empathize with her love-woes...she has nobody. No wonder she look so stressed all the timeđ! She continues to remain a single note single-mom trying to survive in this big bad world full of Viaan R's waiting to accost herđ!!
Will the makers ever give us her side of the picture...her evolution, her journey...I have been waiting for that for a while now...

@bold: Bang on....you've laid out the contrast perfectly. There is a serious disjointed feel to this current mode of Viaan just basking in his happy love bubble.....it isn't feeling like some kind of old school, pining wala love if that's what makers think they are achieving here. He's coming across as clueless and weirdly juvenile in the way he is talking about being in his happy bubble. Supposedly Katha is the miracle of his life now who taught him to be happy but it's like he can't even see her in front of him when he's going on yapping about his happiness in existing in his current state. If you love a person, shouldn't their reactions in front of you also matter to you in some way? If you show two people just reacting past each other, busy monologuing about their respective stances, how is this even a story? It doesn't even feel like they are interacting then. All the slow motion and Khaare Raste in the world isn't going to cover up what feels like a lack of story thenđ
I don't think they are interested in ever showing any depth to Katha's character....I'm forced to conclude this after many weeks of waiting for some movement on that front. Her presence in the story seems reduced to just reacting to Viaan's actions or going around preaching to her office colleagues or ex in-laws....lol and one of the most jarring things in the story right now is her total lack of interest in knowing who her kid is talking to in Karate class jiska mention he's doing all the time. She is coming across as an absent mother and a liar/hypocrite in Viaan's case especially. This entire drag they've done to show like it was some grand breaking news to her that he has feelings for her.....lol she had the same expressions a week or two back when she first heard the poem recording but she wanted to act deliberately clueless? Why did she invite him to the dinner then to clear things? It was quite clear he was going to say the same thing at that dinner also but Katha was acting like hearing it from him at the Paath was some earth shattering eventđ
There is so much disjointedness and contradiction in Katha's behavior but no character or situation written for her to show any reflection....she's just a statue around which other characters come and react or say things while she just keeps giving that wide eyed lookđ
On the subject of Katha having no one to open up to like Viaan does.....lol ironically she does have some people - there's Dodo, there's Viaan himself that she's many times opened up to subconsciously....but she CHOOSES to be this closed off person who dismisses any attempts by anyone to process underlying issues. She's happy to go around preaching to others about how to "practically" solve their problems but in her own case, her approach is to just pretend like the problem doesn't exist only....lol
boldâŚExactly⌠when he was confessing after the paathâŚshe had such a tearful stricken look on her face and the boy was going on and on about his feelings. Would you not stop for a sec and observe what effect your words are having on the object of your amour!! I found that just too off!! It was like he saidâŚhe just wanted to unburden his own feelings which were stuck inside him for days and he desperately needed to externalise them. Then where is the meeting ground. I would have been ok if Katha had ever given him reason to believe that she feels something more than friendship for him. Yes she has confided in him about her past and her problems a few times but never shown any romantic feelings towards him.

Donât even get me started about the batman robin thing. I absolutely loved the first few innocent interactions they had. But they have really overdone even this track by a mile now. Kathaâs total lack of concern about her 8 year oldâs adult friend in the gym whom she has never met is totally weird to say the least. How is she ok with that? And how has Viaan not heard anyone calling Aarav by his real name in the gymâŚeven when he won the championship. And today the way Viaan and Aarav & then Katha and Aarav were talking about Robinâs love life had me going !! Really who discusses stuff like this with an 8 yr old ?? Actually this angle has been bothering me for quite sometime but one tends to overlook things when you are still ok with the majority of the story arc and enjoying things. But now all these issues with the show are becoming more and more glaring. And honestly the last one I watched briefly was so so bad that comparatively this was great till a few weeks backđ
Hey imo they are following the 1001 nights track here, the FL calls and tells the ML she can't accept his proposal but the proposal in 1001 happens in a restaurant with music, candle lights and all.
I find papa G to be selfish, because now he's trying to get his ex-bahu and potha to their house in anticipation of having a complete family. He's aware that kathaa is a strong woman hence trying to convince her by being an adoring PAPA. He's well aware of the fact that she's devoid of family love.
Regarding the reasons for refusal it takes a long while and multiple denials before katha can say yes ONS is indeed a thing that bothers her. Because chances are she's forgiven Viaan for asking such a thing in return for money, but she can't forgive herself for having agreed to do such a thing.
I respect your opinion but the way the ONS is projecting out off lately for last few weeks or something, it feels one-sided and token. Her reason for rejecting felt rushed with 1-2 scenes of feeling frustrated by covering herself in a pillow and quickly to the rejection scene. It was so disjointed!
Like its been aforementioned by others, main observations are either Katha ke face par baara baje hue h or she's just lying. Idk, it's appearing too unidimensional. A lot of her expressions are about feeling overwhelmed or something.
Like, Idk how to mention, it's just as a viewer, the story is just off and seemed to pause at episode 50-something.
Even Viaan's arc is feeling disjointed -- following behind Katha a lot, making her feel uncomfortable, etc. Disconnected, honestly speaking.
Bold: This bit feels really so off too wrt to Katha being oblivious to who is Aarav's friend. I mean, Aarav literally narrated the whole story about his friend having ditto same rejection story today but Katha, for once couldn't discern who is the friend is or what's the actual matter is.
I don't think they are interested in ever showing any depth to Katha's character....I'm forced to conclude this after many weeks of waiting for some movement on that front. Even a person under a rock can fathom that Aarav mentions about him a lot like at least like, as a parent, naturally one feels dubious even over a piece of chocolate is in their kid's hand when their "adult" friend gives it to them đbut that also seems to be gone for a toss lol.
