i think there has to be a balance where you dont sanitize and strip stories of their grey or real characteristics in a quest to be politically correct, real world is messy but at the same time avoid regressive and cringey portrayals of women etc

i dont know whether you watched RRR, there was criticism of some of its aspects (not too much focus on women etc) but i thought the movie discarded all the issues which plagued bb and alia's character was small but that was what the story required

I did not see RRR as the promos did not enthuse me and I am fed up of films set in colonial era or same old Brits being bad to Indians and Indians fighting back shit.

Post Lagaan I have not seen any film set in the Raj era and I think these Raj era films and shows have been done to death. I was fed up of films like Lingaa, films on Jhansi ki Rani, Bhagat Singh, Jallianwala Bagh, Udham Singh or films set in partition.

They have predictable themes. And I decided to take a break from films set in colonial era.

I know and I did not see RRR even when its Hindi version was shown on T.V.

No idea. Last film of his I remember is sequel of Robot which had Akshay as villain.

The idea was good but somehow film was a bit boring and not like his earlier films.

Shankar is another one of larger than life fantasy creators though and his films try to give a message on political realities. I dislike the misogyny and reducing women to just props in his films though. Rajamouli still gives better footage to women compared to Shankar.

shankar's initial films befero 2.0 (robot sequel) were written by sujatha who is a very famous and good writer

it is said that shankar's quality plunged after sujatha's death

i agree, shankar's comedy, romance and depiction of women is worse , very juvenile

he is good at large scale action and creatively merging in news issues with larger than life depiction
