On a side note, I have always gotten a Tamasha vibe from the promos, but it genuinely felt like he was parodying Tamasha on purpose. The holiday romance, the heads resting on the bar, the driving scene right out of Safarnama, even the filmy dialogues on beachside. I can see why they were initially trying to get Deepika. Funnily enough, that film also has the same problem. Deepika's family is an afterthought, like Shraddha's family is here. They really need a woman to help with the writing process.

Oh and Karthik/Nushratt are also really fun in their scenes, especially Nushratt

I never saw Tamasha but that movie was stupid 😂

Spoilers

Okay, so I suppose the female character not being an evil bitch and just misguided was Luv's idea of a progressive film 😆

The film is fairly funny, so I can see why the reception is positive. But the final ending with Shraddha deciding she was the one who was wrong or whatever really sours the whole film for me. Like the airport climax scene is genuinely the funniest climax chase scene I have seen since Jaane Tu, but the immediate epilogue just really undercuts it. They couldn't just give her a separate house 5 blocks away, like even that would make it slightly easier to digest. Or have her family be involved at all.

Like, she makes a point about how she never saw her mother get acceptance in her dad's house and there is that really subtle scene of her mom going away into the kitchen while the family is deciding about the wedding, and only she goes to ask for her mom's opinion. But the rest of the film doesn't really follow through on the idea. Like the mother is so important to Shraddha, but you never get Ranbir trying to gel in with her family? A better film would have them realize that they truly are both good people but aren't meant for each other, and Shraddha to leave, but it's Bollywood so you get a wrong kind of happy ending.

The basic plot is contrived, down to the Tuffy style climax revelation. We were talking about Punjabi films, so I guess in a lot of ways, this is basically a Gippy Grewal film. Guy has a secret and is lying to the girl, comedy of error ensues. Ranbir's funny, Bassi supports well as the foil. Shraddha also does well, till the final scene, she can't really do the tough bits of acting. Dimple is the highlight of the film. Everyone else has little to do. It passes by fairly quickly, even the songs, which is always good. And Shaitan is right, both of them are easy on the eyes. 😆

Does Ranbir have some big rant about women b

A severe lack of classic romantic comedies has led to the release of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. For this genre to be revived, it must be successful. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, directed by Luv Ranjan of “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” fame, succeeds in some areas but fails miserably in the storyline and screenplay departments.

With finest rom-com actors like Ranbir and Shraddha much was expected from this so called rom-com which turns out to neither of it. Despite having Bassi, the film has very few funny moments and lacks punch. This movie is a complete “Khichdi” because of the excessive family drama, loud performances by Shraddha and the supporting cast, stupid plots, and “PKP” monologue hangover.

In the movie, Ranbir Kapoor plays Mickey, a second-generation businessman from Delhi.

He also works as a relationship counselor as a side gig. Except for his niece, no one else in the family knows about Mickey’s side business. Mickey’s business partner and best friend, Anubhav Singh Bassi, is portrayed in the film. Mickey considers what he does to be an artistic endeavor. In the first fifteen minutes, everything is beautifully established.

Mickey runs into Nisha Malhotra (Shraddha Kapoor) while on vacation. Sparks fly immediately and in no time, they are head over heels for each other. Now, there are issues with this part of the story, which I will discuss later.

Things take an unexpected turn before the interval when Micky’s expertise works in reverse to hurt him.

Nisha wants to break up with Mickey and she contacts him for help, without knowing that he is the very same person with whom she is trying to part with.

The rest of the story is about why Nisha wants to break up with Mickey and what eventually happens.

For any rom-com to work, it should be breezy, should tickle bunnybones of youth no matter with slapsticks or sexiest jokes.
The movie should have lot of lovey dovey moments which melts your heart. But none of the basic requirement are fullfilled in this movie. Barring one or two songs, even music is not that good and its abrupt placement in the movie just makes the movie somekind of snoozefest.

Its script and screenplay are the film’s main flaws.
The script has way too many loopholes, much more than 90s David Dhawan movies.
Editing is sloppy.
Overall the movie is just passable fare which doesn’t have the potential to be in the leauge of Luv Ranjan’s own PKP. Dailogues are all one two liner monologues.

Can you enjoy a movie but still disagree with major aspects of its ending? This was the case here. Movie is enjoyable so I definitely had a good time watching it by the ending ruined it for me.

SPOILERS!!!

So one upgrade from Luv's previous films is the women's are not vamps from ekta Kapoor serials. I'm this movie, shradha is not shown as evil or mean, her perspective is shared, and it's legitimate. But the problem is the movie's climax portrays it as misguided.

Tinni's main concern is the family being too involved and wanting her own space with her husband. The movie treats that perspective as wrong. That his family is so NICE, that she had nothing to worry about. In the ending, she doesn't get anything she had asked for. No space, no privacy. Even the climax, the entire khandaan goes to manaao her. The montage at the end shows the family in every moment. Why couldn't it have shown a healthy balance and compromise? That even if the couple lives in a joint family, they can go out and have their own space? There are definite pros as well to living in joint family, like help with raising a baby, but I hated how the couple is not shown spending ANY time alone?!? So basically the guy once again, has his perspective shown as the correct way to be.

Looking at Taran's update, the movie's advance for today on book-my-show has almost doubled the yesterday bookings...so, a good weekend is in the making, I think.

It would be nice to not spoil the movie here. Until now, it was easy to skip the spoilers because - thankfully - they were clearly marked but when they are in a text posted as a review, then that isn't this easy to skip...
