okay folks -- as I read the translation of the poem that pomegranate shared from birdie, here is a random question to discuss this weekend:

is he just happy because she spoke to him?

is he happy and therefore in love? so does it mean if he is unhappy (due to her), he won't be in love?

does he feel hopeful and therefore in love? so does that mean when reality changes, he won't be in love?

I think that the poem scene is his realisation that he has fallen in love with Katha. ❤️ At least that's how I interpreted it. It's like he has finally recognised and acknowledged his love for her. And the way it was shot (with the camera panning around him, the dreamy lighting, music, etc) confirms and reflects his feelings.

mango…I just read the translation, while it’s a brilliant effort by the birdie, there are slight errors. For e.g. it’s not the night that betrays him, it’s the evening that brings the night…the poem right in the beginning is setting it up as a journey. Therefore, it’s not just single emotion, it’s a journey of emotions too,
The fact is a literal translation loses certain aesthetic of the poem, specifically in this case the metaphorical expression, or even in this case the syntax which frankly cannot be translated into English.

He is not just happy that she spoke to him…remember baatein karna is NOT just speaking, it’s an amalgamation of her acknowledgment of him and a collection of her expressions… he is not “happy” he is ecstatic because her acknowledgment makes him feel his existence….it’s far deeper…

Main hun Kyunki voh mujhse baat karti hai

It’s mai hun….not main khush hun,,..

he isn’t “happy” that’s too small a word. He lives, he loves, he feels, he hopes.


I know you didn’t tag me, but I wanted to explain this, because the poem is too deep to interpret it through literal translation.

In fact if you notice,,,every transition of the poem was translated on screen…the use of lights within darkness, (jugnu) the showing of a small hue of pinkish red in the sky of the night (surkh shaam)

All brilliantly done. It’s a masterpiece of a scene…giving us both literal and deep perspective

Agree completely. That scene explored the depths of emotions so well. Rarely seen on television. Super proud of team!
