Yes, I find it annoying. Like sometimes I might see an actress get bashed by low and behold her fans will just comment "she is so pretty" as if they can't defend their fav which is weird. When someone gives me fake compliments it's weird. There is a family friend we visit at holidays and the creepy grandpa always comments on my looks and I feel odd every time.

Strange...I just read ONE comment that responded to the "you" in the topic.

How do people here know, if a complimenting comment made by someone they don't know to someone they only have a personal view on, might be "fake"?

I smile to exxagerated comments (mainly because it's something that belongs to the (Indian) filmindustry), but why would they "annoy" ME???

As for judgements about the beauty of a person...well...not MY cup of tea.

To respond to the topic:

No, it doesn't annoy me if I perceive them as fake...I just smile about them...with a wink...

I don't receive compliments much; if I get one, it doesn't matter whether they are fake, smile or say thanks, and move on.

What annoys me is someone putting me on the spot to give fake compliments.

Well, comforting lies are better than unpleasant opinions.
