How are you feeling about the decline in BW?

It seems hardly anything is working at the box office. Even big budget films are flopping or not doing as well as they could have before the pandemic hit. How do you feel about this? For me, I cannot speak as the average movie goer as I haven't watched many Bollywood films lately, and even then I am choosy.

I would've been happy if it made them introspect on actual storytelling and the unnecessary expenditure on foreign locations and designer clothes.

But what's happening is they've concluded only big budget spectacle films work or sequels.

So I don't know how to feel 🤷‍♀️. I mean, it's the livelihood of technicians and extras also, so I don't want them to shut down. But what's the point of an entire industry based on Marvel type movies?

I think 2023 will pick it up again. The Hollywood writers strike may work in Bollywood's favor. D2 doing well was a good sign, but Bhediya flopping was unfortunate.

Actual good movies did bad this year though. Badhaai Do did not do well. JJ didn't do well. Bhediya had a good plotline and didn't do well. I can list so many more, Unnchai worked because they focused on a small population of seniors.

Badhai Do was nice, but it had a storyline which doesn't work in India. JJJ was plain boring. I FFed through 60% of the movie. Haven't seen Bhediya yet.

There are reasons for these movies' failure. Problem is BW has decided it's because they were not spectacles.

If that's the tack they're going to take, expect 10 or so years of costume dramas and mythology-inspired stories.

Sad BW now has to depend on HW writers strike for things to turn around

Hope there's a writers strike in South industry and Korean, Turkish industry too

They've had it coming for the longest time for continuously churning out crap - remakes, formulaic films, slapstick and low brow comedy.
