Am I the only one who didn’t see this movie as a selfless love but rather as a control freak who thought he had to stick his nose into everyone’s business?

The movie starts with Aman mocking Naina and getting her family and the whole neighborhood to join him because …. Because she was in a bad mood? Then there’s the typical KJo insensitivity about other cultures with the restaurant storyline, and typical KJo homophobia with the Saif SRK friendship arc. Although to be fair the homophobia in this one wasn’t nearly as bad as some of his other movies.

My biggest problem with this movie was him pushing Naina and Rohit together knowing she doesn’t love Rohit. Yes I get it, he can’t marry her because he’s dying and doesn’t want to be another person in her life to leave. But pushing her into marrying someone else was an extremely misogynistic move. Naina is an adult. If she decides to stay single then it’s her buisness. All Aman can do is refuse to marry her. How she spends the rest of her life is only and only up to her. But KJo is KJo and he thinks it’s always up to the man to decide how a girl should be happy.

Ohh, and Aman opening the neighbor’s mail and reading it was another dick move. First of all why are you opening people’s mail regardless of which Kapoor/Kapur it’s for. Second of all, opening someone else’s mail is a federal crime in the U.S. technically he could have gotten his ass kicked out of the country. One of those nosey aunties should have called the INS on him 😆.

KHNH is another problematic Karan Johar movie with SRK playing another benevolent jerk.

That is indeed a valuable way to see this movie 😊

I saw it in another way as he clearly was labelled as an angel coming to turn things arround...and I know - from movies - that angels can be nosy, manipulative, loud, pushing etc. But they don't want to hurt anybody, so, yes, quite benevolent, this guy....and there is simply no possibility to marry an angel...so...bingo...he had to die...to get on other persons' nerves...

He wasn’t an angel. He was a man with serious cardiac issues who could dance on the street, dance at a nightclub, and dance at a sangeet, help rebuild a business, and then tell an independent educated woman she should marry someone she’s not in love with because otherwise she’ll be all alone for the rest of her life. I mean IIRC Naina was sobbing during her wedding. Not one person including nice guy Rohit thought that it was just wrong?

I know the movie was directed by Nikhil Advani but it has all of Kjo’s marks on it.

Of course, he wasn't an angel as such but he obviously was linked to the prayers (I should have put the word angel in " "). I also meant it slightly ironic.

I can relate to your logic, but it isn't the logic of this magical movie...

Oh God this. I remember watching this as a pre-teen & though I cried my heart out when Aman died, it was even then, very confusing & annoying as to why he felt the need to dictate Naina’s life like that. Like sure, Rohit loved her etc but she didn’t…?? So let her be? Not every friendship grows into love, some people are just meant to be friends & Aman’s meddling didn’t help anyone in the end b/c In the climax, old Naina was still crying!! While narrating this story to her grand-daughter. She didn’t grow to love Rohit romantically, he was her bff + husband & she respected him, cared for him but didn’t love him… Like why’re you going around telling grown-arse women to live their lives the way YOU think fit, Aman?? Why? Why??

Seeing USA on big screen and songs of this movie were the only good things in this movie ❤️

The storyline was problematic, Rohit and Naina.. BFF who were forced to marry by Aman 😡

"forced"? No, surely not. Manipulated into? Yes.

I don't think that she regretted to have married Rohit but she surely regretted Aman's deadly illness. It was obvious in the movie that Rohit had the ability to make her laugh, to make her happy...she consented in the engagement because she really liked Rohit. She wasn't unhappy at her engagement party (Mahi Ve Song). And there is no doubt that Rohit was in love with her but rather immature...it somehow needed Aman to make him mature.

I understand the criticism but the movie has another logic as Aman isn't thought as someone who gets something but someone who gives something (starting with giving smiles ... btw. something SRK himself strives for). He is not meant to live love but to install love (he changes the whole ambiance in Naina's houshold - also in favor of his uncle).

For me, the magic of the movie lies in the thought that Aman's task in his life had been to be like a katalyst, someone who inspires, has great communication skills, is creative and empathic, changes things through his contagious enthusiasm and motivational talent. That's like an "angel's task".
