Why are these people so dumb? Do they not understand that for someone to enter the Health Science field, they have to sit for an entrance exam first? Do they not realize that lakhs of the student compete for a few thousand seats every year? Do they not understand that 1 mark make all the difference?

4 years of preparation for entrance. 5 years of college and it is only after all this that we can THINK about starting career

You can easily buy a medical seat in MBBS if you are rich. One of my classmates dad brought her a seat in south indian medical College. We still wonder how she managed to complete her degree. Now she is a doctor. Entrance tests do not matter if you are rich and powerful.

"if you are rich and powerful", rules don't matter...and ethics go down the tubes...(not always but often...fortunately)

As someone from the medical field in the US, there is nepotism in the medical field as well. I have seen residents marching into programs over qualified applicants because of connections.

a few examples

1) I got into family medicine in a California program. 2 years later my husband applied to the same program and they reassured me they'll take him too. They did, although he's very good, but they didn't know that already.

2) now his cousin got into the same program because he auditioned for it, but so did many others. He also got exposure to the faculty at all our get togethers, so they knew him.

3)my husband's brother got into the same hospital's IM program. There is literally a legacy program.

4) I won't mention the name, but an attending was going to leave the IM program, and they were short staffed, they begged her to stay an extra year. She made a deal that if they take her brother in law for a prelim position, she'll stay. They did, and my god, he was a TERRIBLE doctor. I to this day think, how the hell he graduated residency.

I have many more examples of this. Sure it's a little different and you'll think all doctors must be qualified coz they passed an exam, and yes the nepo-doctor had to put in some work, but compared to someone who has no connections, they have it so easy. I didn't have any connections when I applied.

Also, US medical school admissions and residency are not all just score dependent. There's a lot of factors that go into it. A lot of doctors will send their kids to international schools like in Caribbean (which is easy to get into) or India and Pakistan, have them come back and "adjust them" into residencies where they have connections. I've seen it all
