So, New Zealand's unbeaten run ends, and if the remaining matches go according to the form book, we are set for a three-way tie in Group 1, with NRR the deciding factor. All eyes on how Australia take on Ireland on Friday now... they need a big win to put the squeeze on these two teams...

It looked very dicey indeed for England when Glenn Phillips was dropping bombs in the middle overs, but on a sticky pitch, England's seamers were exceptional in the final quarter, with Mark Wood's third over setting the tone, and Curran and Woakes closing out magnificently. Jos Buttler's 73 was the clincher in the final analysis, along with a key fifty from Hales at the top of England's order.

With that win, England jump to the number 2 spot in the points table. And that's also New Zealand's first loss of the tournament. Electing to bat first, the England openers got their team off to a fantastic start. Both - Hales and Buttler notched up their respective half-centuries and laid the platform, and although the batters who followed next couldn't contribute anything substantial, England finished with a pretty competitive total in their allotted 20 overs, mainly due to the contributions by the openers. In reply, the NZ openers couldn't give their team the desired start, and although there was a partnership between Williamson and Phillips, England took wickets at regular intervals. Their death bowling was pretty tidy as the Blackcaps couldn't get those much needed boundaries. The big-hitters, all of them, they came, and they departed without doing much damage. Was never going to be easy to clear the big boundaries at the Gabba and the bowlers kept the pressure maintained towards the end. All in all, England will be quite happy with their all-round performance. Australia will be in a spot of bother with England's clinical show.

Kane Williamson: Credit to the way England played, they put us under pressure. They played beautifully, hats-off to England, they were clinical. It was a slightly above par total. We tried to take it little deep, but credit to the way they bowled. It was quite tricky. You don't want to be doing that, and he'll make you pay.

Jos Buttler | Player of the Match: I said at the toss that we didn't think too much about the past poor performance, we have great players in the playing XI and in the squad, we had the confidence that showed up today. It's a ruthless tournament, last year South Africa went out despite having 4 wins out of 5 games. This is a World Cup, there will be pressure and the best teams do thrive under it. We bat deep, I thought the wicket was a little bit tricky, especially against spin and I thought Alex Hales played a fine hand, It's all about partnerships, one day he gets going, some other day it'll be my turn. It's nice at the end of a career when you look back at things on an individual level (on going past Eoin Morgan as the highest scorer for England in T20Is). The game was shaped in different ways, facing spin was tough, we wanted to be flexible with both bat and ball - the way Moeen bowled that fantastic first over, he put New Zealand under a lot of pressure.

Group 1 is still wide open, anything is possible. If NZ lose against Ireland in their next game, they are probably out of the tournament.

Tomorrow there will be another double-header as Zimbabwe take on Netherlands, and India lock horns with Bangladesh.
