Just came back. I loved it. It's beautifully shot and acted. Great story
My main takeaway from the movie was politics, Kunnadavi and Nandini
These two characters stand out more than anyone else. Compared to them the male character came across as less interesting, more unidimensional so to speak
The first half was spent introducing the characters, their motives, and their interpersonal relationships
I must say that researching about Book characters really helps while watching the movie. It can get a bit confusing otherwise at certain points. Thanks for the suggestion @1t1sav
The movie picks in the second half after the entry of Ponni sylvan. He is your honorable, brave, duty-bound prince, A spare. I just think that they could have given more screen space to him considering he is the titular character. Developed his character better. They even rushed through the story behind his name. The movie could have done a better job explaining it
Same for Aditha s character. Though it was better developed than PS something was lacking.
Vanni is supposed to be the audience s stand. We get to know these important figures of the Chola kingdom through his eyes. But that s about it. Again no personal character development
The actors have done a commendable job.
Trisha stands out. I would watch an entire spin-off based on Kundavai. I almost want her to take the throne by the end of it. 😆
Followed by Vikram and Jayam
Nandini is another interesting character. Her interactions with Kunadavi are probably the best sequence in the movie writing-wise. Acting wise I just think Aish could have done better. She looks beautiful and acts decent. But as a viewer, I was expecting more from her
Karthi does a good job of being the audience s eyes into this vicious world of politics and deceit. But that s about it.
Overall. The movie is not flawless but still intriguing. I would suggest everyone should watch it
