They are clearly using skin colour as a way of reiterating class. They same thing happened in Gully Boy. They brownfaced Ranveer but left Alia's skintone as she is because her family is well off in the movie. It's just so subtle that you don't notice it at all but it becomes part of your subconsciousness and how you relate to people. This shouldn't even be the case at all because Hrithik is South Asian so why even varnish his skin tone, eh? I'm not faulting Hrithik here, rather the movie makers.
Hrithik is Indian and also leads a pampered life. He needs makeup to look like a criminal who's had a rough few decades
Also, Brown-faced Hrithik was the good guy in Super 30.
