Imlie is finally ending and I am so glad! I had stopped watching after the miscarriage track. I know that both Adilie and Arylie fans have had their grouches with the story and the characters. Here are mine:
(Note: I am not going to discuss any characters after leap because I still think the after leap story is a poorly written mess. No real story just a mish mash of events put together.)
1) The only characters that I actually liked in Imlie are Aditya, Aryan and Malini. I felt that their characters
were well-written. Aryan's is a bit iffy he was well-written at first, then became very inconsistent.
2) I think that since AKT's actor was leaving, they chose to butcher his character and write him out of the story.
What I wanted:
1) I wanted AKT and Imlie to realise the wrong they had done to Malini. A seven year relationship is a long commitment. How can it be written out so easily over a few weeks love story? For me, the whole premise is just wrong. AKT claimed that he truly loved Imlie as opposed to the friendship he had with Malini. For me, the love was overrated. It cannot be compared to the solid friendship and understanding he had built up with Malini.
I was hoping that AKT-Malini would have a mature love story where they rediscovered their relationship after Malini's truth comes out in the open. That AKT and Malini have a period of pain, struggle and recovery. For Aditya to realise how he had actually wronged Malini and for Malini to realise how her actions were so wrong and how she needed to repent with Aditya.
2) This was where I wanted a parallel - where Aryan and Malini's truth came out soon after one another and both Aditya and Imlie think about what their respective partners had done and why. I wanted it to be a nuanced and matured story of 2 people who were wrong (Aryan and Malini) and 2 people who had been wronged (Aditya and Imlie) and how they rebuilt their relationships with their spouses.
For Imlie to realise the many shades of Aryan, to see past his heroic entrances and see him for his intelligence, shrewdness plus his selfishness and bullheadedness. To stand by him soothe his pain and correct his mistakes.
It would have been a wonderful exploration. But I think ITV writers really cannot write scripts that deep.
