She got big banner films with top heroes of that time landed in her lap without any struggle, she signed up multiple films in her very first year in 1990 without any release that year with Salman (2 films JAAGRUTI, nishchay) ajay (dhanwan and jigar) aamir (andaz apna apna) Akshay (deedar), Jackie (police officer), and later with rest of all of the big names and banners just in early to mid 90s

Also she is responsible for her no sense of fashion or dressing till mid 90s, no one else

Raveena who also started in 1991 was way too polished in her debut

Karishma improved a LOT and was good in Zubeida and Fiza. She also began to look very good post her makeover in Raja Hindustani. I do not think she was that bad. And to give her credit she was one of very few who could match dance steps and comic timing of Govinda.

I personally think she sort of reduced her market value by doing too many films with Govinda, Akki, Ajay, Sunny and was perhaps not considered elite enough for Khan, YRF or Dharma films.

I feel sad how she is more known for her sad and controversial married life than her career now.

But why SRK never worked with her except DTPH?

Aamir has repeated Kareena, Rani, Madhuri, Juhi as his heroines. But never Karishma. And it is said he vowed never to work with Lolo after Raja Hindustani as he did not get along with her.

I think looks and charisma are debatable. Many find post makeover Lolo to be more beautiful than Bebo and latter has been criticised for her big face and rectangular jawline.

Kareena kept getting work despite flops, controversies or reported attitude issues with media, fans, filmmakers.

I feel Karishma may have wasted herself in some B grade films with Sunny, Akki, Govinda, Ajay and Sunil Shetty, where she was just a flower pot.

For some odd reason she has hardly worked with big banners like YRF, Dharma or VVC or even stellar offbeat filmmakers like Vishal Bhardwaj.

It is strange even Barjatya offered her a multi starrer and not a solo lead like he offered to Madhuri, Bhagyashree or Kareena and in HSSH also he paired her opposite Saif and not Salman.

Kareena also had competition though in form of Ash, Sush, Rani, Preity, Vidya, PC, Bipasha and later Deepika, Sonam, Katrina etc. Though not competition of level of Madhuri, Sridevi or Kajol but still she did have competition. But did less B grade films and got big banner films on a platter.

Struggle is true and both she and Bebo have talked about it. Kapoors were against Lolo acting and did not do anything to help groom her or prepare her or get her work.

Media hardly favoured her. She hardly got awards or endorsements. She got ads only after Raja Hindustani and that makeover.

Karishma herself said openly in an interview that its a myth that kapoors were against her joining the Bollywood.

Karishma for sure had it easy right from the start just like kareena...it is on the record how many films she has signed in 1990 itself when an outsider needs to wait for their first film to be hit to get the second one

Dharma had Kjo who could not see anyone besides Kajol from 90s actresses, its not just Karishma

Aamir in true sense just repeated Juhi in 90s actresses, Madhuri signed both films dil n dmsn at the same time hence almost same time release, but he didn't repeated even Madhuri after the blockbuster success of Dil

Srk, I have no idea...but than how many more actresses of 90s got main female lead chance in dharma yrf films during 90s? They were favoring only that utmost lucky screechy Kajol..even someone like Madhuri got only one film with Yrf that too when she passed the peak of her career.

Screechy Kajol snatched all of that from all 90s actresses be it yrf films, dharma films or even been castef opposite srk in main lead in numerous films.

Reality shows I guess Karishma is turning down herself due to her choice else I don't believe the TV channels are not intentionally offering her those and choosing someone like shilpa who is much lower in popularity compared to Karishma

Kareena as everyone knows got massive x factor and superstar appeal and charisma that flops didn't effected her unlike other actresses

I agree, that could be one of the reasons for her not starring with the Khans often

Her early movies with Govinda were considered vulgar for that time

But may be she didn't have much choice either, cz at that time her appearance was not that desired, if she was introduced 10 yrs later maybe she would've been accepted more readily

Moreover despite a super flop Jaagruti 1992 and Salman's career biggest flop Nishchaiy 1992 a colossal disaster , both with Karishma as their first two films together, karishma still got more than half dozen movies with Salman...while Raveena who gave a semi hit/above average patthar ke phool, never got any other film with Salman ever in her career.

Also Bollywood gave enough chances to Karishma for a good 5 years to get groomed, work on her horrible makeup and dress sense and cringy acting, when industry already had great well groomed girls like Madhuri Juhi Raveena Kajol Manisha Pooja bhatt Urmila Tabu etc who were better actresses as well, when karishma was weaker in both fashion and acting department from 1991 till 1995

So industry actually gave a lot of favors to Karishma

I totally agree with you on Kajol getting all opportunities ahead of superior actors who also looked better than her.

She also got undeserved awards also.

Kareena is also smart to do progressive stuff like women based radio show, write a book on diet and pregnancy or remain active on SM. Kareena markets herself well and keeps up with trends and modern buzzwords. She knows how to be in news even if she has no films. Unlike Lolo who is bad at PR, keeping up with trends and has not diversified much.
